Budding young farmer and star of The Late Late Toy Show Sheamie Garrihy recently joined us at The Lidl Farm to officially open for the 2024 school season as we get set to welcome thousands more primary school children for a unique educational farm-to-fork experience this year. Since opening in October 2022, we have welcomed more than 4,000 school children and 400 teachers from primary schools across the length and breadth of Ireland. Developed with The Lidl Farm’s official education partner Agri Aware and key supplier Meade Farm Group, this unique experience set across 8.5 acres of farmland is completely free and provides students with an insight into how many everyday products grown and harvested locally by our network of Irish suppliers make their way from the farm to the shelves of their local Lidl store. Tours run on the Lidl Farm twice a year - from March to June, and from September to October.

We’re pleased to announce that Lidl has become the first large employer to commit to the latest living wage rate of €14.80 as recommended by the Living Wage Technical group. We’re investing €3 million to change the benefits of 2,000 employees across Ireland
We’re delighted to announce 700 brand-new jobs this year AND a pay rise for all employees worth €14 million! These new jobs within our Irish operations will be across our network of 176 stores, 3 regional distribution centres and our Dublin head office. That brings our total workforce in the Republic of Ireland to more than 6,000 employees for the first time. That’s not all – we’re also investing €14 million in pay increases for our existing workforce in the Republic of Ireland! All employees will benefit from an increase from March 1st, 2023. On average this will result in a 7.5% pay increase for employees, approximately between €2,000-€2,500 additional for every employee per year. This increase is in addition to our commitment in October to paying the new Living Wage rate of €13.85 as recommended by the Living Wage Technical Group. We were the first nationwide retailer in Ireland to adopt the Living Wage recommendation in 2015. For the third year running, Lidl has been recognised by the Top Employers Institute as a ‘Top Employer for 2023’.
We are delighted to share that we’ve been named the Most Sustainable Retailer in Ireland by the The RepTrak Company Sustainability Index 2022 - a huge achievement and tangible evidence that our focus on protecting the environment, supporting our communities and employees, and preparing our business for a sustainable future has created real impact with the public.
For the 7th year in a row, Lidl Ireland is committing to matching the new Living Wage rate of €13.85 as recommended by the Living Wage Technical Group - an investment of €7.5 million by the business, impacting over 4200 employees.
