As we celebrate #WorldMenopauseDay earlier this month, we're delighted to announce that Lidl has become the first company in Ireland to receive Gold Level Menopause Workplace Excellence Accreditation from The Menopause Hub Academy recognising our commitment to menopause awareness in our organisation. Over the past three years, we have worked closely with The Menopause Hub Academy to create distinct ways of sharing, educating, supporting their employees about menopause so that women can continue to work, live and enjoy their lives to the full. We recognise our responsibility as an employer to those going through the menopause to freely discuss their symptoms and request accommodations without fear of judgment, so we’ve invested heavily in training and support programmes and initiatives to better support managers and all employees. This included introducing a menopause buddy programme to encourage regular, open communication amongst colleagues; revised policies and support guides; free consultations with Menopause Hub specialists; regular educational sessions for all employees and in focus themed content distributed to employees through Lidl’s various internal channels. Our aim is to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and supported and we tailor our approach to meet individual needs.

Crowds gathered early to be amongst the first shoppers through the door of our newly refurbished store on Headford Road in Galway this morning. Galway Ladies Gaelic Footballer Nicola Ward and Cllr Niall McNelis were the guests of honour to cut the ribbon officially opening the highly anticipated new and improved store. The Headford Road store was one of our first stores to open in Ireland in 2000 and with this new refurbishment, we're delighted to offer customers an enhanced shopping experience throughout its expanded sales floor with high ceilings, wider aisle as well as five new self-service checkouts and a new tap and go coffee machine. To mark the opening, the Headford Road store team welcomed Arthur Carr and Deborah Carr from local charity Claddagh Watch to accept a donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers. The volunteer-led charity, founded in 2019, is dedicated to creating a safer environment around Galway city’s waterways through volunteer patrols and raising awareness. The opening of the newly refurbished Headford Road store created an additional 15 new jobs, bringing the store team to more than 30 colleagues.
We're proud to share that we have donated more than 5 million meals to over 700 charities across the island of Ireland in partnership with FoodCloud. Since 2017, we‘ve worked closely with FoodCloud to reduce waste and redistribute food through our store network and distribution centres to local charities. This milestone of 5 million meals has resulted in more than 2.1 million kgs of food being prevented from going to waste and more than 7 million kgs of carbon emissions from being emitted. #FoodWaste #ABetterTomorrow
We’re proud to share that we have been named the Most Reputable Retailer and 2nd Most Reputable Organisation overall in the Ireland RepTrak® 2024 study of 100 organisations – our highest placing since the study began in 2000. Based on the perceptions of more than 5,000 members of the public, this study measures the level of trust, respect, admiration and esteem the public has for organisations in Ireland, alongside hundreds of other reputation, brand, purpose and ESG indicators. Our reputation as a responsible, sustainable retailer that delivers on our price and quality promise is paramount to our performance as a business, and we’re delighted to see that Irish shoppers, suppliers, business partners and future employees are continuing to make Lidl their first choice. The results can only be achieved through the commitment, passion and pride of all colleagues across the business, to build, maintain and enhance our reputation over the years, taking calculated risks with industry-leading initiatives whilst always remaining true to who we are. Thank you #TeamLidl – you should all feel very proud of this significant achievement. #WeAreLidl

At Lidl, we’re proud to support the progression and visibility of women in our organisation and society through our equal opportunities talent acquisition and development process, our partnership with LEAD Network Europe whose mission is to progress women in the retail and FMCG industry and through our longstanding partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association. Visibility of female role models is so important and our new #GetBehindtheFight LGFA campaign is designed to fill every seat at every game and boost attendance at women’s games. To mark International Women’s Day this year, we’re calling on allies and communities to join us in smashing inequality in sport and pledging to show up for female players – post your commitment and tag your connections to #GetBehindtheFight and show your #SeriousSupport
Our series of Free Electrical Recycling Drop Off Days with European Recycling Platform Ireland, starting with our Castleblayney store in County Monaghan. Taking place across a number of our stores, these free public events offer an accessible collection point for communities to recycle their household electronic waste – that is anything with a plug, cable or battery. Since 2018, our stores in Cavan, Clare, Dublin, Kerry, Limerick, Louth, Meath and Monaghan have collected more than 77,000kg of batteries and our free electrical recycling events with ERP Ireland have collected an impressive 184,000kg of e-waste. Small steps like recycling old household items can make a huge difference to the environment and, as a responsible and sustainably focused retailer, we are committed to educating and empowering consumers to embrace sustainable practices and help create ‘A Better Tomorrow.' We're proud to work with ERP Ireland to engage every community, particularly those areas where access to recycling facilities is limited, to participate in free electrical recycling collections.
