    I worked at J D Wetherspoon part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Managers are usually very supportive, the company offers regular training and depending on sales the staff gets a commission.

    Cons

A single bar person, until a couple of years ago at least, used to get overwhelmed with a lot of tasks during busy hours, like serving the food and get the orders at the till basically at the same. I believed it improved with the app which allows costumers to place and pay for their orders, though that's my experience working there 3 years ago.

I have been working at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

20% off drink, free food on shift, 12 hour break between shifts, progression opportunities, bonus scheme, flexible on availability, young work force

    Cons

Usually under staffed. Very stressful on certain occasions, large workload for almost minimum pay. Salary for shift manager / shift leader far too low in comparison to work load. Low pay causes staff that the company have invested money and time in training leave because pay isn't sufficient. Managers/ higher level staff have to take most of work load as high turnover means constantly training new staff and ends up wasting more money training up staff than just retaining the staff already in the company. Salary paid employees always working more than their 40 hours and never being able to claim back as the hours are kept tight. If wetherspoons actually invested more money in the management, they wouldn't leave. Most managers are able to work twice as hard and as good as an associate yet are getting paid an extra 1 euro (SL/TL). How can someone be motivated to become management when they get there, they realize their work load has quadrupled and they're getting paid pennies for the work.
