Pros

Seems flexible in terms of schedule. You build out your own day for the most part and have freedom as long as you’re running the meetings you’re supposed to (4 client visits per day minimum) .. which is a pretty easy target to hit as most reps just pop in and ask a few questions and leave. I’m new to this territory and based on the response from customers on their expectations of meeting length. This will bleed into the con section, but another pro is that the money isn’t bad, not the greatest out there, but the sales market is really tough right now, so if you’re struggling to find those 80-120k plus salary ops right now, UPS is starting more around 70k base with OTE of about 95k the first year and then it goes up from there. There’s also a 6 month commission guarantee

Cons

This is not a true AE job, it’s AM, they need to stop listing it as AE. In my word AE’s are typically focused on new business, but as you see from the reviews, UPS fires ALOT of people last year, so if you’re a hunter like me, and you are driven by opportunities to focus on finding new business and closing deals, this probably isn’t the right gig for you. Case in point, I was just bothered by an account over a $4 charge on their bill…. I’d rather make 200 cold calls a day than handle one single billing issue. Also (and they don’t tell you this until after you start because they know that no AE that is worth anything would be ok with this and would just continue their job search if they heard about this in the interview) make you work in the warehouse or on the trucks delivering packages if those guys go on strike and during all of December (yep, you will probably be spending your Christmas Eve doing this)… and they won’t pay you extra for it, they say it’s part of being salaried. So they take advantage of their free office white collar staff so they don’t have to pay temps who really could benefit from picking up extra shifts. I almost quit on finding this out alone, but the sales job market right now is so terrible. It also doesn’t seem like there’s alot of opportunity to make commission, especially in small business. A lot of these places are already using us to full capacity and if they don’t, they left because UPS really messed up, or the rates just aren’t as good. Which if I was a small business owner, I would use whoever was cheapest as well as long as my packages arrived on time. So they label it as a hunter role because you’re supposed to “hunt” to grow new business, but for those of you who have actually had real AE roles, you’ll get what I’m saying here

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
