I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at NEXT (Hatfield, East of England, England) in May 2019
Interview
After applying online I got emails saying I haven't been considered, but I then received a call to conduct a 10 min telephone interview and we decided to do it then and there. I was asked about 4 questions which you get asked in any retail job interview so they were all easy to answer. She called me in for an assessment two days after the telephone call. On the assessment day, we talked through the available contracts and which ones I favour, and then we got to the shop floor. I have experience in retail (5 in total), a year and a half in fashion retail so I felt comfortable in the fitting room and recovering the floor. As I did this, I would smile and greet customers. The lady conducting the assessment was meant to be observing me but was constantly leaving, she would randomly come back and tell me to hold conversations with customers. I'd simply ask them if they needed help and I thought this would suffice, but it didn't. I find it pointless to talk about random things with customers, I'm there to help and advise them, not talk about the weather. With some customers, doing this is fine but when they tell you they're just browsing and that they're ok, it's hard to hold conversations. At the end she asked me how it went, I said I enjoyed it but she said she felt "uncomfortable" offering me a role and questioned my experience in retail. She suggested me other companies I can work for and said to maybe apply again in future when I have more experience, as she delegated the workforce that consisted of sixth formers and college kids. For my time, I was given a gift card and that was that.
Really Short and easy. only asked 4 questions and quick to provide feedback. Based on previous customer service experience and dealing with difficult customers. Experience working in retail and customer service
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at NEXT (Havant, England) in Apr 2026
Interview
very slow process, it took over 3 weeks for a response and I had to eventually contact them myself which led to me being ignored. The lady was really nice in my first stage of my interview but I have heard rumours that the company is not great to work for.
Typical customer service questions. Explain a time you helped someone, working as a team, working independently, tell me a little bit about yourself. What are kpis. What is good customer service
