Approximately 80% of pharma products in Europe require temperature-controlled shipping and storage. As part of our journey to become the world’s leading complex healthcare logistics provider, we opened our first dedicated UPS Healthcare facility in Dublin, Ireland. This $13 million investment includes nearly 20,000 square feet of space, helping boost the country’s pharma market, which accounts for almost 50% of Ireland’s exports. Coupled with our new flight path, connecting the US, Ireland and the UK, we are now able to improve our small package, freight forwarding, distribution, cold chain and UPS Premier services for customers across Ireland.
As part of our drive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, we’re reducing our carbon emissions by making our iconic fleet of vehicles efficient, reliable and sustainable. With 100 new electric vehicles (EVs) in Paris — and a goal of over 600 across Europe by the end of 2024 — we can better serve our customers in congested cities. With a long range of 142 miles per charge and a smoother driving experience, we’re looking after our drivers and the planet in one fell swoop!
As a company, we’re committed to fighting climate change and promoting sustainable initiatives. Through the UPS Foundation Tree Grant, our global aim to plant 15 million trees by 2030 was aided by a project in Dublin. A group of UPSers gathered to plant 36 trees in Herbert Park with the help of Dublin City Council. The team learned more about native species, how to care for them, and the positive effects that they have on our environment. The volunteering day also boosted mental health and led to an increased community spirit, helping UPSers bond over an important and worthwhile day out.
Starting as a delivery driver in Dublin, Shane has progressed to an Operations Manager role over his 11 years at UPS. His passion for rugby led him to join the Emerald Warriors RFC as a coach — an inclusive team for LGBTQ+ players formed in 2003, who compete at home and abroad. As a heterosexual man, joining the club helped him understand the challenges the gay community face playing the sport they love. Whether he’s working towards winning a match or supporting his team to help deliver packages, Shane’s allyship is helping him be a better coach, mentor and manager. “On a rugby pitch, there's a place for everyone. And it’s the same at UPS,” Shane said.
2023 was marked by a lot of major wins and accolades. We bagged more than 70 awards globally for innovation, reliability, service and DEI. These included The Best Customer Service, Most Admired, Most Innovative, Greatest Workplace for Women, Best Employer for Diversity and more. FT Magazine also acknowledged our CEO Carol B. Tomé on its annual Woman of the Year list for her steadfast, consistent leadership during the pandemic and commitment to creating an inclusive, values-based culture. Here’s to many more awards and opportunities for our UPSers in 2024!

Born a Triplet, He Was Always Part of a Team. That’s Why UPS Was a Perfect Fit John Coliton wasn’t thinking of a career when a UPS recruiter visited Henry Ford College in 1984 - he just needed a job. He showed up in a suit – and was still wearing it when the recruiter sent him to the hub that night. “They wanted me to work that night,” he said. “I changed into work clothes and came back and started loading trucks. It’s been a great career ever since.” Coliton worked his way up from package loader to driver to UPS’s Detroit operations; to HR Director in Virginia, Chicago and San Francisco. He’s retiring as Global Director of HR Compliance and Employee Relations, responsible for 528,000 employees around the world. “It’s fulfilling,” he said. “People come to you with issues and you help resolve them. It feels amazing that UPS has the faith in me to put the right policies in place.” Coliton was born in Detroit in '64 as a triplet, with a sister two years older. He and wife have four grown children. “I’ve always had a team around me,” he said. “I think that’s why UPS was the perfect fit.
