Pros

KPMG is a fun place to work coming out of school, there are many bright young professionals, which makes coming to work a pleasure. There is a steep learning curve, and the work is engaging and challenging. Because KPMG is a multinational firm there are opportunities to move to new positions and to new locations which makes the company a great place to work.

Cons

As with any of the big four accounting firms, the hours can be long, especially during a busy season. Also, as with any job, an important aspect of working there is timing. If you work in a group that has a large market share and many senior employees there is little room for advancement, whereas if you come into a group that is new to a market the opportunity for advancement is much greater.

Pros

You get to work with an awesome, highly resilient group of local peers in the advisory practice. The KPMG brand still holds value, but the internal team dynamics have become incredibly fractured.

Cons

We have outsourced 80%+ of our Risk Advisory work, leaving onshore seniors with massive gaps in their experience. As a manager, I am stuck doing senior-level work because I typically have only one or zero local seniors or associates on my teams. The best leaders have already resigned because this model prevents actual management and mentoring. Also, it might take you 30+ years to become partner in Risk Advisory, if at all.
