Pros

Decent salary and benefits (including free games, ice-cream, events and health insurance). EA Galway is the perfect place if you're young and you need or want to gain some experience in an international environment.

Cons

Don't expect to be heard and don't work too hard as you won't get any promotion no matter how good your stats are. If you want promotions or better benefits, just make friends with managers and become somebody's girlfriend / boyfriend. If you are the clown of the team you will have good chances to be promoted as well. Career development is the most frustrating thing in this place. People getting promotions don't really deserve them, whereas hard-working people with amazing stats don't get anything. At the end, all that frustration only makes you want to leave and the performance goes down as well. No communication from studios so you learn about new issues thanks to the customers. When the issue is resolved, then it's too late and you took a hundred calls already.

Pros

- Really easy job - You can avoid work and still have the best stats because most of the people are incredibly lazy - Nobody's really checking anything so you can do dung all the time and still have great quality reviews - Free icecream every wednesday until some guy eats all of them

Cons

- No real career development oportunities - Management is always lying to get you doing things you are not supposed to do - Mafia coercing the people in probation to do stuff they are not supposed to be doing - Food is terrible - No windows in the building - Air conditioner full power during the winter - VERY FUNNY! I worked there for almost two years and during that period I realized that nobody cares about anything there. I could see people taking 15 calls a day while I was taking 80, and their own managers wouldn't even notice it. A simple easy job performed by lazy manatees and managed by potatoes. People who would have been fired long time ago if they would have been in a real company with real standards. Useless farmers getting paid over 50k a year as Area Managers for doing almost nothing - I say "almost" because they actually do some things, only they do them horribly wrong. Imagine that you are working in a company where things are working terrible and every customer hates you, and then your manager tells you "what's the craic bro, don't worry, managers are working on it!" and then you see that they are, indeed, working on it, 'cause it goes even worse. That's EA. Then they make a video showing how happy the dumbest people in the company are, and they tell you: "how's the form? you should be as happy as them, why are you not? let's make an integration course, I think you need it! and it will be mandatory!". That's EA. Then you send an e-mail explaining your concerns about the management and they tell you "Thanks for the feedback, it's really appreciated and I'll make sure the upper levels of management know about it" and next month you are awarded with some discounts for local shops. What a coincidence! Of course, no further response to your e-mail. That's EA. Don't even try to get a real promotion, that place is full of useless girlfriends getting the best jobs. That's EA. During my exit interview, the HR girl asked for some feedback and when I answered she literally told me: "Wow, what a coincidence, everybody says the same things!".

Pros

- Decent Salary - Easy job

Cons

Where to start.. First of all do not expect to be working in the video game industry. EA Galway is just another call center, you'll never get into any actual video game stuff. The studios are all working independently and EA Galway is seen by them as an outsourced call center. The communication between the studios and the support is non existant and you'll always be made aware of the different issues happening by the customers calling outraged. It can take up to a full day to receive an email stating an issue is ongoing on the game. If your dream is to work in the video game industry I'd advise you to look elsewhere, in an actual studio. The second point that had most of the people working there disgusted is the way the site is being managed by the area managers. Your team manager will most likely be powerless and unwilling to help you whatsoever. If you ever ask your direct manager for help you'll be redirected to someone else until someone is actually willing to give a hand. Most managers will be seen doing their FIFA Teams or just playing random games on their computers. The area managers are using people in probation to do extra stuff on top on their work because they know they won't say no. Promotion is also very doubtful. I've spent 2 years here and there are some things that catch your eye pretty fast. Often will you work hard for a position, have great stats, do extensive shadowing sessions only to see someone's girlfriend, brother or sister get the job out of the blue. When you ask for details on the promotion system you're just answered "She's had a better overall rating" but never ever will you be allowed to see how the rating is done. In less than a year I've seen 6 girlfriends being promoted, sometimes to jobs that were not officially open. There again I've tried to ask for information but I've always been shut down. Finally, I've seen several people being forced to pay thousands of dollars to be able to leave the company before the end of their first year as they were contractually entitled to stay at least that time. If someone is willing to pay such a crawy amount it should give you an idea of the atmosphere. It's sad to see that EA goes by the slogan "Make EA known for taking care of its players" when they do not care at all about their employees.
