Days Mon, Tue, Thur & Fri 7 hours per day & Sat 3.5 hrs
Salary £12.71 per hour
Contract 9 Months (possible extension)
Growing Space is a registered charity. It was founded in 1992 in response to the Welsh Office All Wales Strategy for Mental Illness, addressing a need for sheltered training and work experience within the community. Its long-term aim is to provide high quality support and training that would lead to employment.
Growing Space has a track record of providing high quality services, developing a user-centred approach and working in partnership with statutory and third sector bodies to enhance clients' quality of life.
The mission of Growing Space is to improve the mental health and well-being of individuals, families and communities in Gwent.
Purpose:
To establish and manage a new Barista Coffee Cart at Cwmbran Library while supporting participants with poor mental health and/or learning disabilities to develop practical, personal, and employability skills through vocational training and day-to-day café operations.
The role of the supervisor will be to work with adults providing training in personal, project and employability skills, to support community integration.

Job Requirements
Cash handling and food waste monitoring
- Handling money raised through the coffee cart.
- Monitoring and reducing wastage in line with profit margins
- Till operation duties
- Budgeting and ordering responsibilities
Education/Qualifications/Knowledge
- An appreciation of the needs of disadvantaged groups including adults with mental ill health and learning disabilities E
- Up to date knowledge of training, employment and benefit issues or where to signpost D
- Barista qualification D
- Food Hygiene L2 D
- Food Allergies D
Experience
- Experience of working with adults with mental health problems D
- Experience of providing support and mentoring within the hospitality trade or similar environment E
- Experience in working in a fast paced environment E
- Knowledge of stock rotation, maintain up to date legal documents requirements for Environmental Health. E
- Growing and maintaining an active volunteer base as well as completing all paperwork involved in the safe running of a catering enterprise. E
- Experience of working with participants who have experienced poverty and barriers to employment D
- Able to demonstrate understanding of welfare reform and the implications for participants D
- Experience of the assessment and development of action plans and their implementation E
- Have a demonstrable level of customer service experience E
- A good understanding of catering health and safety E
Aptitudes and Skills
- Ability to demonstrate excellent spoken and written communication skills and interpersonal skills E
- Ability to demonstrate good organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines E
- Good IT skills including ability to use Microsoft Word E
- Ability to find creative ways to resolve problems and issues that may arise E
