      Package Delivery Driver Interview

      4 Aug 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Redmond, WA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at UPS (Redmond, WA) in Aug 2017

      Interview

Applied online. At the end of the online application I was given two time slots to choose from for a on-site interview. I applied on a Monday and the interview was on Thursday of the same week. At the interview there was three other guys. Someone from HR greeted us and took us on a tour of the facility. Showed us a full truck getting ready to leave. Even let us check out the computer program with a routes information on it. Then we went up to the breakroom. It was there she laid out exactly what to expect in the process. This included starting pay, a brief overview of benefits, and the onboarding process. The basic road map is as follows: - Apply Online - Interview(tour and then 1 on 1's) Wait for a phone call if you made it through the first steps. -Driving test(to see if you can handle driving their manual transmission trucks) - DoT Physical/Background Check -40 hours of training (She said there's lots of videos and study guides to learn) -30 day probationary period(Where you go out with a supervisor everyday until you can run a route by yourself) This is where she says she looses the most people. In this location(Redmond,WA there's only four training routes. Sometimes there's a wait list for said routes. Could be a few days or a month. This downtime is unpaid. It definitely seemed from the HR lady and in talking with other guys that are drivers that this 30 day probation is tough. But if you make it through and they feel good about your performance you are then officially a employee. and they let you loose on a route of your own, by yourself.

      Portland, OR
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at UPS (Portland, OR) in Oct 2022

      Interview

The most remarkably unprofessional interview experience I have ever had. They asked me to call in, the gentleman I spoke to spoke very little English, with a very thick accent. I had trouble understanding him, and he had trouble understanding me. He could not answer any of the questions I had about the job. He tried to tell me that the pay rate for the position was $2/hour under what was posted on the application, and when I asked him about this, he put me on hold for 25 straight minutes, just to come back and tell me he did not know, and could not continue the interview. He told me I would receive a call in the next 48 hours, but I do not plan on answering if this is the UPS experience.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at UPS in Sept 2022

      Interview

Job position said it paid over 100K for what is considered a rural area. Went through the whole Application process, scheduled the interview, just to realize that all of the information was misleading. The first issue I noticed was when I scheduled my interview it gives you the impression that it’s an in person interview, only to find out that it says its a virtual interview. Even that information is misleading because it’s actually a phone interview. These mishaps prompted me to do some research. The job only pays $21/hr for intensive labor.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

We didn’t get through the entire process. During my research for the job interview I kept seeing the rate for this position at $17-$21/hr- full time. That is not what the initial job post said. The screenshot I have says that the position is for a package delivery driver in a rural town that pays 143K a year. After I learned that, I shared my concerns and wished to rescind my application, and share my experience in hopes to make the experience better for applicants and recruiters.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      League City, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at UPS (League City, TX) in Sept 2021

      Interview

Interviewer started off saying this was a seasonal position. I said it didn't say seasonal anywhere on the listing - on LinkedIn (where I saw the listing) or on the UPS website. I didn't mention LinkedIn until the interviewer asked how I heard about this position. Position was for October 2021-January 2022. According to the interviewer, the whole onboarding process including the probation period would last about two months. I can imagine, "Congrats on finishing your probation period. You can go home now." Lol

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Interviewer went over the same info on my application about moving violations, if I was 21 or older, if I've ever driven a manual transmission, when I could start. After I said I was no longer interested because it was actually a seasonal position, the interviewer went ahead with the process. *shrugs*
