Answering questions on video, then a follow-up phone interview. Phone interview was basic regarding background and experience. I asked a lot of questions about the 'work-life' balance and company expectations, as the reviews that I had read on Glassdoor for that company were unhappy as to working conditions, hours, and lack of work-life balance.
The marketing material on line and sent to me makes it look like Party Central but many of the reviews did not reflect a happy work environment. The interviewer's attitude was that they expected 100% dedication and you were expected to work hard and do anything, which is fine if the compensation reflects it.
The interview pretty much ended when salary was discussed, it was at least 10k less than it should have been for a position of that responsibility.and required experience. When I suggested that what they were offering wasn't even a living wage in this area, much less commensurate with my experience, I was told, rather defensively, I thought, that salaries were based on living in Cambridge, which would be impossible on what they were offering. My takeaway was that management had a 'you should feel grateful to work here' attitude without addressing simple things like 'are we paying a living wage'. If having a beer fridge at work is your end goal, great, but that doesn't pay the mortgage.
