HubSpot – Why Work For Us?

HubSpot helps millions of organisations grow better by building the software and systems that power the world’s small to medium-sized businesses. Our company culture builds connections, careers, and employee growth. How? By creating a workplace that values flexibility, autonomy, and transparency. Through our commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, and unique approach to company culture (our Culture Code has more than 4M views), we've redefined how people work and live.

HubSpot has been named Best Place to Work in the eyes of Glassdoor, Fortune, Entrepreneur, Inc. The Boston Globe, and the Boston Business Journal. Founded in Cambridge, MA in 2006, HubSpot has offices in Portsmouth, NH; Dublin, Ireland; Sydney, Australia; Singapore; Tokyo, Japan; Berlin, Germany; Paris, France; and Bogotá, Colombia.

HubSpot Culture: Always Be Growing

At HubSpot, we care deeply about helping people grow. That's why we're committed to creating an inclusive company culture where employees can do their best work. We lead with flexibility because feedback, research, and our own employees show that the number one way to help people grow is by being flexible. Giving HubSpotters the freedom and flexibility to create their own work-life balance builds trust in our company, but it’s also just the right thing to do. That’s why flexibility is at the core of our benefits, perks and culture.

How?

The HubSpot Culture Code is a living, breathing document that shares our values, beliefs, and aspirations as a company. (Today, the Culture Code has over 4 million views and counting on Slideshare.) Transparency, autonomy, and our mission of solving for the customer are at the core of how we work. Employees have the freedom and flexibility to have an impact on the business, and to create a work-life balance that is best for them. We offer unlimited vacation, work-from-home policies, and believe results speak louder than where or when you work. We're passionate about helping employees grow both professionally and personally. That's why we offer a range or programs and perks in our global offices to keep learning and skill-building top of mind from tuition reimbursement, weekly Master Classes, fitness consultations, a Free Books Program, a mini-MBA course, and more.

But if you ask any employee, the best part about working at HubSpot are the people. HubSpotters have H.E.A.R.T., an acronym we use to capture the qualities that we believe make for great co-workers: Humble, Empathetic, Adaptable, Remarkable, Transparent. Thanks to employees around the world, HubSpot has been named a best place to work by Glassdoor, Fortune, Great Places to Work, the Boston Globe, the Boston Business Journal, Entrepreneur, and more.

Internships at HubSpot

At HubSpot, interns aren’t interns in the traditional sense of the word. No coffee runs here. Interns make real decisions, produce real work, and drive real results.

  • HubSpot has a summer Product Team internship program.

  • This program is built to help our interns learn key design, coding, and business skills, and also take advantage of the the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a rapidly growing software company, while having some fun along the way, of course!

  • In fact, we invest so much in our interns that a large percentage of them go on to accept full time positions with HubSpot. Many of our team leaders today started as interns and continue year after year to develop their careers with us.

    Senior Software Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Dublin, Co. Dublin

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Dublin, Co. Dublin) in May 2018.

    Interview

    1) Call with recruiter
    2) Code challenge
    3) 4 hour onsite

Call with recruiter was the usual stuff. Why Hubspot, why are you leaving your current role and some diving on previous projects and experience.

The code challenge was just reordering some JSON, I'm sure similar has been posted here. You can use whatever libraries, frameworks and languages you like.

The onsite was system design, live coding, databases and finally a general career discussion with the director of engineering. Each of the technical rounds had 10-20 minutes at the end to go through some culture fit questions.

One thing at each round. If you talk about something at a high level expect to be probed on it. Don't skim of a piece of technical detail because you're not familiar. They will ask. On the other hand ask the interviewers questions too. They will be very helpful.

System design question was one not listed here but something you would come across doing tutorials on preparing for these kinds of questions. Know the basics for micro-services architecture, middle ware components and distributed systems and you'll be fine.

Live Code challenge was an easy - mid level leet code challenge and different runtime and space complexities. Again one I had not seen listed here. The only thing here is it's live coding. You're machine will be hooked up to a TV in the room and the interview will be watching.

Databases focused on relation database design which I was very out of kilter with. Focus on the database piece of system design and you'll be on track for this one and be familiar with wider concepts - indexing, paging, joins etc..

The final one was a chat with director of engineering which focused on culture fit, past experience and where you see your career progressing.

Overall great experience. I unfortunately had to turn down the position due to personal circumstances but even at this point everybody on the Hubspot end was very understanding.
