      Customer Support Interview

      28 Jan 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cambridge, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA) in Sept 2017

      Interview

To me, the interview process was too long. The first interview was awkward because I had to film myself answering random questions, and your answers were timed which put a lot of pressure on me not to mess up. I was contacted a few days after that to have my first phone interview. This interview was honestly the best part of the whole interview process because it was a lot more natural than what I had to do before. I felt like me and the interviewer really got along and I was felt confident after the interview. About an hour after that interview, I was asked to complete the 3 tasks on the HubSpot software for my next interview. The day of my interview, I had a phone interview first with a different interviewer and then immediately after that, I had a video interview with two other interviewers. I had to share my screen and explain how I had completed all the tasks. Before that interviewed ended, I was told that I did everything correctly and very well so again, I was feeling pretty confident. Maybe 30 minutes after that interview, I received a call from my original interviewer who informed me that I did not move forward in the interview process. This was a little surprising to me, since I had done everything correctly and was told that I had done well, but the interviewer told me they said I had a "weak performance." They also said that I didn't have enough experience for this position. That to me was confusing, considering on the job requirements, it clearly says that you can have 0-1 year of experience for the job. Since it literally says that you don't need any experience for this job, to me it doesn't seem like that should have been a valid reason to not let someone move forward.

Sorry to hear this didn't have the happy ending you were hoping for. Unfortunately, the Take the Interview set-up can definitely be a little awkward, but we've found it's the best way to solve for our candidates so they can do the interview on their own time without a ton of coordination and scheduling on our end, and we've created content to make it easier for candidates to know what we are looking for and when. To your point on experience, you're right that you don't have to have experience to join our support team, but we often find people bring their expertise to bear in different ways that help illustrate how they would perform on the job. Nonetheless, we can message it a bit differently so it's more clear. Either way, I hope you stay in touch and appreciate the feedback! -Katie

Great, organized, clear expectations. I found that, while the process was very corporate, they have managed to create an environment that values prospects. They know that every candidates experience matters and reflects their ethos.

      Dublin, Dublin
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Dublin, Dublin) in Apr 2024

      Interview

The process started with a brief introductory phone call with an HR representative. The second stage was a practical role-play interview where I had to resolve a customer's issue using a chat simulation. I shared my screen throughout this task, using the company's knowledge base, Google, and AI tools to find a solution. The focus was clearly on my problem-solving method rather than just getting the right answer. The final stage consisted of three consecutive interviews with a hiring manager and two team leads, where they asked standard behavioral questions. The entire process was very efficient and took less than two weeks.

      Question 1

Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult or angry customer. How did you handle the situation, and what was the outcome?
