      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA) in Jan 2017

      Interview

I applied through an employee referral and interviewed at the Cambridge office. I have to say, though there were multiple steps to the interview process, the Hubspot recruiting team (shout out to Callie!) was so responsive and helpful along that way that it only enhanced my desire to work for the company even more! After I submitted my online application I received an email a day later prompting me to complete an interview that was a video recording of me answering the questions that appeared on the screen. I had 1-2 minutes per question to answer, which went by fast, but the best thing you can do is just relax and be yourself! They want to see your personality despite the slightly uncomfortable format since you aren't actually interacting with a person. I was contacted by Kelsey a couple days later to share my availability that week to arrange a time to speak with Callie. Kelsey was so helpful with arranging all of my interviews and always responded immediately when I emailed her asking for the contact info of people who interviewed me so I could send them thank you notes after each call. (I recommend doing this!) The call with Callie went great as she was super easy to talk to! Callie asked me questions about my resume, my interests, why I was interested in working for the Hubspot support team, and asked me about experiences I have had working with customers. The next round was a video call over google hangout where I spoke with a Support Manager (Zach) and did a screen share tech demo with a Product Expert (Jim). Zach and Jim were both so easy to talk to as well and both conversations were very fluid and natural. Nothing throughout this entire process felt forced, which only made me love Hubspot even more! Zach asked me more personality questions. For my demo with Jim, Callie sent me three tasks to complete using the Hubspot software beforehand. The tasks weren't too time consuming, and I recommend using all of the online Hubspot resources if you get stuck. You can pretty much find helpful step by step instructions for any questions or troubleshooting issues you are having. For the third task, Jim had me explain to him how I did it through a role play format where I acted as if I was working in Support and he was a customer calling in for help. Finally, I went to the office in Cambridge where I met Callie in person and she showed me around! I then had three 30 min interviews with Cait, Matt, and Vinny. Beforehand I was so worried that it would be hard to have three interviews back to back, but it went by so fast and I enjoyed every second I was there. Everyone I met that day was so welcoming and easy going that I couldn't help but feel put at ease and it allowed me to be myself. I think the final interviews were ultimately used as a culture fit test as their culture code is such an important part of Hubspot's values. Ultimately, if you be yourself and are honest about your strengths and weaknesses, you will only increase your likability! I am so excited to work for such an awesome company and I highly recommend applying!!

This review made my day. I couldn't agree more that you hit the jackpot in getting to work with Callie and Kelsey during your process - they are top notch and I'm so glad they made sure you were prepared and had a great experience. In addition to the amazing crew of managers on the Support team you met with during your interviews, you're about to join a fantastic team - congratulations and welcome to HubSpot! -Becky

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA) in Dec 2019

      Interview

I had a 3-step interview process that consisted of a brief phone call followed by a zoom demo consisting (quick chat and mock customer support call) and finished it off with an on-site 2 hour interview with 3 managers. The whole process was quick and efficient with awesome hiring managers that were very communicative and responsive. I had an awesome experience and would recommend anyone on the job hunt to apply to HubSpot.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at HubSpot (Boston, MA) in Oct 2019

      Interview

They were looking to hire quickly - so the process was expedited. Interviewed late one week, and was interviewing in-person in the middle of the next week. (I am not local, I drove 6+ hours to be there) They had me interview with a few different people. Most of them were very pleasant. (Especially Caroline Ostrander & Lauren DeSoiza. Lauren in particular was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.) One of them, a former Apple Store manager, was not. Ultimately, the day after the in-person interview I was informed via e-mail that I was not offered the job. Disappointing, but not the end of the world. In the e-mail, I was told that they would provide some feedback on my interview performance if I wanted it. I figured that might be useful so I obliged. I e-mailed my HR contact asking for interview feedback. No response. I waited 7 days, and e-mailed him again. He replied this time and apologized, stating that he was very busy and got caught up with some other things. Okay. He gave me a date and time when he would call me back the next day. No call. I e-mailed again. No response. I attempted to call him a few times and left a message. No response. And each time I called, his phone went directly to voicemail, no matter the time of day I was calling. Not entirely sure why they say they offer interview feedback if they are obviously not actually interested in providing it. That and Apple store manager guy really soured me on my experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked a lot about customer service experience naturally. Also had me do a demo exercise with their website. It's been a little while, so I don't remember many specific questions that were asked.

      Interview

Be ware! Things will move along quickly and then all of a sudden come to a halt. They pride themselves on having a great company culture but overlook highly qualified candidates who possess a substantial education and willingness to learn. The process is thought to be great initially when you go through the interviews and they will move you along. If one of the managers doesn't care for your style of answering questions or is intimidated by you, good luck moving on and getting an offer from the last round. Very false facade of what they preach and actually represent.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to write a review and I'm sorry that you felt that your interview experience wasn't consistent throughout. Our goal is to be incredibly thoughtful about the methods by which we evaluate candidates' fit for the role, including considering feedback from a cross-section of interviewers with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Any decision made would be inclusive of the entire interview team, and includes a thorough debrief process. Regardless, I want to ensure our team is learning from candidates' experiences and will be sure you take your feedback back to the team. Thanks so much for investing the time to interview with us and best of luck in your next steps. Best, Becky
