What is overtime like at Salesforce?

Excellent Work-Life Balance with Generous Leave Policies

      Support engineer
      Current employee
      Tokyo
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

At my company, taking paid leave, including long vacations, is easy as long as you apply in advance. Employees are offered 20 days of PTO and 10 days of sick leave each year. The work environment allows employees to prioritize their families, with male employees being able to take time off to care for sick children. The work-life balance is excellent, with almost no overtime, and over 90% of employees leave work on time. This makes it easy to balance work and personal life.

      Cons

ChatGPT A potential concern is the lack of backfill for employees on extended leave. When my male colleague took six months of parental leave, no one was assigned to cover his duties. This significantly increased my workload, making it challenging to maintain the same level of work-life balance during that period.

      Pros

Salesforce provided immense career growth opportunities, especially during hypergrowth phases. The culture of V2MOM alignment created clarity of purpose, and the company’s emphasis on Ohana values fostered strong cross-functional collaboration. I had the chance to lead innovation consulting, sales engineering, and product strategy work, and each role came with a high level of autonomy and trust. Compensation and benefits were excellent, and the scale of impact—both internally and for customers—was extremely rewarding. I met and worked with some of the smartest, most values-driven people in my career.

      Cons

The company became increasingly complex and bureaucratic over time, which made it harder to move quickly in later years. Promotions at senior levels often skewed political, and internal navigation became more critical than product leadership or customer results. Some orgs operated in silos, and cross-functional alignment—while championed—could be hard to achieve without executive air cover. During the post-acquisition years, it felt harder to innovate without clear runway and backing.

      Pros

Great benefits, perks, and a decent work-life balance. You get to work with customers on the frontier of a massive shift with the mass introduction and utilization of generative AI.

      Cons

Big tech lay-offs loomed large in 2022/ 2023 and will continue to with the introduction of Generative AI. Many were let go and rehired- I left on my own accord for other opportunities. B2B Saas products like CRMs are becoming easier to develop independently in-house for small and large companies in a much more customized and cost-effective manner using AI integrated coding and machine learning. Revenue will take a hit as this continues to happen over time which will inevitably mean rapid structural change or unexpected lay-offs- so be prepared!

      Pros

      Cons

Culture has become more transactional and less inspiring over time. Some leaders are fantastic, but it is uneven across the company.

Well-known company with a toxic work culture and leadership challenges

      Account solution engineer
      Current employee
      Toronto, ON
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

A globally recognized company with strong products, a respected brand, attracting top talent. The environment is fast-paced and full of opportunities to learn from driven, experienced colleagues. Benefits and compensation are competitive, and the flexibility of hybrid work arrangements (team-dependant) adds to the appeal. When you’re part of a supportive team with a strong manager, the collaboration and external opportunities can be energizing and the work genuinely fulfilling.

      Cons

Bureaucracy and politics dominate daily work, making it difficult to do anything meaningful without overexpending oneself. The pressure to perform is relentless, and true work-life balance is virtually nonexistent. Many employees openly joke about skipping meals, running on just a few hours of sleep, and rarely seeing their friends or partners because the workload leaves no time for anything else. While the position is overtime-elligible, managers often discourage reporting it, sending mixed messages that punish transparency and reward burnout. Priorities change abruptly, often without explanation, leaving employees feeling misaligned and unprepared. The company frequently talks about its values, but they rarely show up in practice. Sales and optics often take precedence over accountability or employee wellbeing.
