Pros

Working from home, generous benefits package, a real path for upwards mobility

Cons

Toxic management. Sales managers are currently under directive to stop assisting their salespeople as a sort of “sink or swim” era so that Yelp can PIP hundreds of people without the heat of announcing layoffs. Management will lie to you and tell you that territories don’t matter, but you can find hundreds of messages from management to ops requesting territory swaps for their favorite reps because a current territory “is bad.” Little to no real communication is available. Questions you ask your manager are never answered or followed up on. There is an astounding lack of communication between the product team and the sales team, so basic questions about how the product works go unanswered and salespeople are left without an answer mid-demo.

Pros

If you love your city, it can be very fun. Remote work is helpful and you'll make great relationships with fellow community managers, who are typically wonderful people.

Cons

As others have said, upper management is extremely out of touch with reality, including the realities of small businesses post-COVID. Pay is very under market for the level of work. Values are consistently preached but only selectively honored.

Thanks for sharing your experience after spending so many years on our team. We agree that connecting with your city and working alongside wonderful fellow Community Managers are some of the best parts of the role. We're also glad remote work was helpful for you. Favoritism and gossip don't align with the environment we want to create. We want everyone to feel valued and supported as a person. We also want to uplift team members who want to explore roles in other departments. We have many amazing opportunities across Yelp, and we encourage people to pursue the work they care about most. Your feedback helps us grow, and we will share your notes with our leadership team so we can keep making Yelp a better place to work. Thanks for all your hard work over the years, and we wish you the very best in your next role.
