Pros
Company invented its core virtualization marketplace, and made a killing doing it. I was acquired into the company and rolled into an overlay position for cloud solutions. Opportunity to quickly establish lead in this "tip of the spear" market offering was there for the taking.
Cons
Old guard allowed account reps to dictate sales pursuits and priorities .... always selling virtualization capacity (their history) instead of ensuring VMware became the cloud governance and automation standard (their future for IaaS and PaaS). Missed opportunity. The two half year comp plans, a la IBM, are a non-starter for most quality reps.
