Pros

- Surrounded by smart, talented, and motivated people. - Autonomy to get your work done in the way that works for you (MOST of the time - see Cons). - Great perks, benefits, catering. - Transition from private to public company has been handled really well, with little to no impact on culture.

Cons

- Compensation isn't great (it pays the bills, but it isn't amazing) - Aspects of management are becoming one-size-fits-all - from a team cohesion standpoint it makes sense, but I was promised flexibility if I was getting my work done, and it didn't quite play out like that in reality.

Pros

Remote first culture. If you want freedom of location and a company to truly mean and support it - this is the place.

Cons

Constant change. Nothing to hold on to in this role, compensation, KPI's, tools all change every quarter.

Pros

Legacy Shopify ICs and lower-level managers are excellent and generally quite nice (company's Canadian after all) Caliber of engineering talent is generally high Dev-friendly stack (Ruby/Rails) Bleeding-edge AI adoption with unlimited token budget

Cons

Recently brought over a CTO from Microsoft: he brought with him a lot of not-at-all-nice people who are highly political, frequently rude/condescending to legacy Shopifolk, and make consistently bad/dev-hostile technical decisions Bleeding-edge AI adoption is being used to justify unreasonably increased expectations
