Pros

- Pay is okay - The clients are amazing

Cons

When I was hired, I was coaxed with tales of non-hierarchical, community-based advocacy. What I found was rampant cronyism, a secret but stalwart theocratic leaning, coupled with special treatment. I went to work for them in dreams of focusing on clients, but spent my time putting out fires, quietly sweeping overlooked "Zero Tolerance for Racism" policy infractions under the rug, all in the name of keeping the beds filled and the director not needing to do his job. Zero support, except from co-workers. And that was tenuous at best, because everybody was overworked suffering from organization wide compassion fatigue.

Pros

The best part of DGM is that some of the people are absolute gems. I work with many people who genuinely care about our participants.

Cons

The pay and benefits have stagnated and have not kept up with inflation, limited PTO, no sick time, and no paid holidays/ holiday pay. The higher ups have a toxic bro culture and ignore all lower paid employees largely. This company has rapidly expanded (50 employees to 230 in a year) and there has been little to no thought about how to structure the company during this growth. There is little staff support, a large tolerance for toxic behavior by certain protected parties, and zero training. There are also lots and lots onsite safety risks as well as chronic understaffing.
