I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at VMware (Palo Alto, CA) in May 2011
Interview
The interview process took so long that I thought I was out of the running. Interviewers were both professional and welcoming in their demeanor.
Had one phone interview, then 5 in-person interviews. Oddly, after I was hired, those chosen to interview me were not necessarily people I would interact with.
Advice: Do not be put off by the length of time the interview process takes; you may still be among the top picks. Also, if you do not get chosen, ask for referrals to hiring managers for other open positions within the company--you may not be a fit for the position you applied for, but you may be perfect for another. Use your previous interviewer's name as a referral when you call the next hiring manager.

Question 1
Whiteboard your understanding of the architecture of < this product>.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at VMware (Palo Alto, CA) in Jul 2021
Interview
Applied online. There was no recruiter screen,:
1.) Interview with hiring manager, immediately followed-up by another interview with a fellow team member
2.) 2 additional interviews with individuals from the company with the same title/responsibilities but working in a different product area
Each of the interviews told me specifically that they thought I was a great candidate and would be a good fit for the role, and that they would send positive feedback regarding my candidacy. Unfortunately, this was followed-up about a week later with a generic rejection email saying they were moving on with another candidate.

Question 1
Tell me about a time when you took initiative to improve a process
I applied through other source. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at VMware (Palo Alto, CA) in Oct 2017
Interview
Manager reached out to me directly to conduct a phone screen. After phone screen, we met in person for lunch to discuss further. After Lunch, proceeded to do another phone interview with a manager from a different team. This is where I was met with complete silence.
After waiting/expecting an update from the recruiter on next steps, The recruiter and the hiring manager went completely cold on me on next steps. I emailed each individual multiple times and did not receive an answer at all. I felt this was very unprofessional from such a well-respected company. It is completely rude to not respond to candidates and completely ignore them. If this is a reflection of how the company operates this is clearly a place I would not want to work.

Question 1
How would you evolve/adapt a product into the next stage?
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at VMware (Palo Alto, CA) in Jul 2017
Interview
Balanced. Focus on communication and experience as much as technical knowledge. Good exchange with all whom I spoke with. Multiple interviews across the organization, with a focus on looking for the skillset they were looking for. Overall a very good experience.
