      HR Business Partner Interview

      12 Jan 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Paycom in Dec 2017

      Interview

I applied for an HRBP role and then was emailed the next day (Thursday) to set up a time for a phone interview. I set up something for the following afternoon (Friday). On Friday afternoon the recruiter and I talked for about 30 minutes going over basic phone interview questions. Describing the job, getting information on my experience, and gauging where I was in my job search process. After the conversation the recruiter said that he would reach out to me the following week to set up a time for me to come for a panel interview with the Hiring Manager and other HRBP's. Monday morning of the next week the recruiter called me and asked when a good time to come in would be. I told him I could be there Thursday, mid morning, so we scheduled a 10:00 am interview with the hiring manager and others. I arranged my schedule at my current job so I could make this work. Thursday at 9:40 am, while I'm 5 minutes away from the interview location, I get a call from the recruiter. He says that they checked my application and see that I had worked for Paycom in the past and by there records, they wouldn't be able to hire me. I had listed that information on my application with dates of employment and other information, I wasn't trying to hide this info. I did work for Paycom for about 3 months right out of college. It was an entry level data entry job that was not in my career path and a better job fell in my lap after 3 months at Paycom. I wasn't searching for a job. This was also 7 years prior. I told the recruiter that I wasn't trying to hide that information and that was the reason I added it to the application. He said that it was "his bad" and should of seen it earlier. I really have no problems with the policy. I'm not sure why I was listed as ineligible for rehire, I assume because my tenure was so short, but all companies have rehire policies and I understand that. My issue is with the recruiter. If he is going to start the process with me, do a phone screen, talk to the hiring manager and then set up another interview, it would make sense for him to do his basic recruiting checklist to see if I would've been an eligible hire. The fact that he had over a week to do that and ended up notifying me 5 minutes before I was scheduled to be there for an interview is unacceptable. I'm glad I was in a position where I could answer his call because it would of been really embarrassing to check in with the receptionist and have the recruiter come down and send me away before I interviewed. Overall, I couldn't be more of a detractor for anyone looking at Paycom as their next career step. They pride themselves as one of Oklahoma's "best places to work" but from my experience and many others I've talked to, it's anything but that. They offer good pay to people right out of school but their ridiculous black out days makes the work life balance one of the worst that I've seen. For a kid right out of college this may be no big deal but it is hard to recruit to anyone over the age of 25 with a family and tell them they're not allowed to take time off around the holidays or random weeks throughout the year. Their business seems to be doing great and they're expanding like crazy, which is great for them. I just can't sign off on it being a great place to work. It seems more like a sweat shop than anything else.

We appreciate you sharing your detailed account of your interview process and are sorry to hear of your experience. We agree, a recruiter should ensure that a candidate is eligible to work at Paycom based on past work experience well before interviews take place. As you mentioned, there are certain times during the year when our client support have blackout periods, but this is discussed with candidates during the interview process. We’ve discussed your experience with the director of recruiting to ensure processes are being followed when speaking to candidates. Best of luck in your career endeavors.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Paycom (Oklahoma City, OK) in Sept 2022

      Interview

It was a two part interview process, one zoom and one in-person at the main headquarters. I did hear back within the same week of my second interview for an offer which was within the timeframe they told me I would hear something. The recruiter was great and constantly prepped me for what was next and clearly knew her stuff when it came down to benefits, overall culture, etc.. She even gave me a mini tour the day I came in for the in-person interview which was very kind of her.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

There were quite a few situational questions (tell me about a time... etc.) to uncover my experience with employee relation situations and cross-departmental partnership and advising. There were also quite a few questions regarding experience as it was on my resume and that gave me time to dig further into what I couldn't fit on my resume.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Paycom (Oklahoma City, OK) in Apr 2022

      Interview

I found the job posting for this role on the Paycom website. I applied online and received an email a few days later requesting a phone screen with the recruiter. The phone screen was about 30 minutes long and did include some behavioral interview questions. I then interviewed in person on the Paycom campus with three HR leaders including the director of HR. One week later, I did a virtual zoom interview with the VP of HR. I was offered the same week as my final interview. The process from application to offer was 3 weeks. It was a very professional and pleasant process.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Paycom (Huntsville, AL) in Apr 2022

      Interview

Completely automated until (txt and email) until I had a recruiter on the screen via Indeed.com video interview. Technology was AWFUL and was more of an interrogation than an interviewer by a green recruiter

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

You say you have been in HR for more than 20 years but your resume doesn't reflect that, tell me what you did before. I don't understand your chronology.
