      Customer Service Representative Interview

      20 Aug 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Intel Corporation in Jul 2023

      Interview

To begin with, I had a very poor experience during my interview. During the group interview, the employee stated that the job is not guaranteed, you have to get through two rounds of interviews, completely understandable. At the end, they mentioned we need to have our set up, monitor, hardwired, windows 10 before we can complete the first round of the interview. On the questionnaire it insinuated that we have the option to obtain the equipment later such as upon being offered the position. They had 25 spots filled and said they need 50 filled in total therefore, I was thinking to myself this is a little high risk taking into consideration the other candidates who attended the group interview. I sent an email to the employee stating what should I do about obtaining the equipment because my savings is depleted (I had just relocated out of state) and the only money I had left to spend really is for transportation services to my current job (this is how my other job came into the picture). They said “I’m really not sure what to tell you since you know your budget better than I do. I can tell you since we are this close to the start date, they will definitely want you to have two monitors. So I will leave it up to you”. The reason why I thought to be honest about my financial situation is because I wanted the recruiter to know that this is not just any job for me. I wanted someone to be aware that I was making a big jump and hoping someone on the other end would catch me..no that did not happen however, I will tell you exactly what did happen after I tell you what I did when the recruiter said they will leave it up to me. I immediately took an Uber to Walmart and purchased the monitor $100+, desk $100+, tools to set up the desk, etc. At this point I was not spending my money, I had to borrow money from someone, you could say I was negative. I spent two hours at Walmart, when the Uber driver approaches, he does not look too happy with all the boxes I had and did not offer any help. I struggled to lift the heavy box into the back of his trunk without hitting the cart against his car while he stood watching with a frown. Is it not things like this that should matter to a company because if someone is willing to go through all of this trouble and you were aware at the very least they were spending the last funds they had for you, who is truly the best candidate for the position? Now, let’s fast forward to the interview. The interviewer questioned me about having two jobs, I only told this information to the employee however, I knew if they told the interviewer about the current job I had then they also had told about my financial situation. I know that people look down on others who do not have money and that is how I presented myself to them, I knew at that very moment I was being judged. It is similar to when homeless people go in for a job and are turned away. Except, I am not homeless, my family and I own a little mansion on an acre out of state. We will be purchasing a second home; rest assured my financial situation is temporary. The current job I had was not an issue and it was certainly being used against me in the interview process, I was applying to Intel because I planned to transition over if given the position. I was able and willing to immediately work my schedule without any accommodations and I agreed that the shift was perfect for me. Then, the interviewer asked some scenario questions and said “Ok, I think that’s all” then, threw in an additional question. My responses were good and I think they were trying to find a reason not to hire me. I had experience taking calls except not in a call center however, this alone does not determine if an applicant obtains the position, it is not a requirement. The interviewer said I just want you to know how many calls it will be and I responded that it could be roughly 200 calls or more to show that I was aware and prepared. Then, the interviewer went on to mention how it will not be a break, etc. When someone starts talking like that, you know when they are just informing you on what other applicants think or if it is being directed at you and that is how I felt, they were looking at me as if I wanted a break to do half my job in all honesty. When the interviewer mentioned” We are considering all applicants”. It sealed the deal; I knew I was done and yet the interview had a smile on their face the entire time and honestly, I could not do that to someone and smile, it means you have no empathy for others if you are able to do that. It was no purpose in returning the equipment because it was not my money to keep, and I lost my job. I had to keep moving forward. It was only God who helped me, I was offered two work from home positions and one call center position. You have to realize that these employees have secured their position already, it is time for you to do the same. My advice is during the process, give very limited information from start to finish.

      Question 1

One interview question was just explaining how you would handle a situation where a customer is having a hard time telling you what they need assistance with.
