Worst experience ever from a phone interview. The problem was when the interviewer asked me to talk about my work experience. The interviewer somehow decided to assume my experience was arrogant, which I found super insulting and disrespectful. They then got rude and proceeded to throw it in my face by asking me to defend my own answers which is a very low class thing to do to experienced people who have job options! I was just speaking normally like I've always done and have had plenty of successful interviews and offers. I've never had a problem on a phone interview until this interviewer. It's a very poor reflection on this company and their work culture and I hope I don't come across Groupon ever again.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Groupon (New York, NY) in Oct 2021
Interview
I applied online and was then invited to phone screen. I spent 30mins on a call combing through my background only to find out they couldn't afford me. The recruiter also didn't seem to understand tech recruiting so wasn't aware of the alternate titles for roles. I realized I spent most of the time asking questions about the role - information she should've provided on her own.
Once I realized the salary was way below my target, I declined to move forward. It's unfortunate companies still aren't investing in Talent Acquisition in this market.
