      Copy Editor Interview

      17 Apr 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Groupon (Chicago, IL) in Mar 2012

      Interview

I was contacted by e-mail to schedule a phone interview. The interview was described as casual and was intended to lay out the job functions, pay, hours, and benefits, to gauge my interest, and finally to schedule an appointment to take a copyediting test at the company headquarters. Several days later I went in for the test; it was a simple editing test that took about fifteen minutes, after which I left. I was called back an hour or two later to set another appointment, this time for in-person interviews. Several days later I returned to interview with an HR rep and the managing editor (individually), and to be given a brief overview of work practice by one of the working copy editors. The interviews seemed pretty standard, with no curve balls. I don't know if I flubbed something in particular or some other candidate was just more impressive, but I received a call three or four business days later in which I was told they had elected not to proceed with my application. It was disappointing because I could see that the job would have been a piece of cake, and I need the experience. Ah.
