      Management Development Program Interview

      19 Mar 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Indianapolis, IN
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at GEICO (Indianapolis, IN) in Mar 2020

      Interview

I applied for the Management Development Program (MDP) in January and after submitting my application, I received an email one-week later to schedule a phone interview. My phone interview was scheduled 3 weeks after I received the phone interview invitation due to the company's availability. Along with the invitation to schedule the phone interview, I had to complete a Caliper Assessment, which is a personality assessment to see how well your personality with match with the company. The phone interview process went really well. It's basically a time for you talk with a recruiter about why GEICO would be the best place for you to work. The recruiter went through a list of courses I will have to take while being in the program (these courses are required of all candidates who have not already taken them). She discussed pay, schedule flexibility, what specific department I was interested in and why, how long I envisioned myself being at GEICO, and my leadership experience. She also typed out my responses to each question. After passing the phone interview portion, I received a call the following day from a different HR recruiter to schedule my in person portion, which was 3 weeks after my phone interview. This phase of the process involves coming into the office. The first round of the day is taking a computer assessment in which they are looking for your speed and accuracy when typing a paragraph and also learning a pretend system in which you will be expected to do some multitasking. For example, filling out the correct forms (claims, service, sales) based off of an email you may read with all the information needed to answer as many questions as you can or by listening to a phone call in which you’d have to listen to the information being said to fill in the information. Once you pass that round, you take the second part of the Caliper assessment. Then, you have your one-on-one interview with an HR recruiter. During this time, the recruiter will be reading off of a script while asking you questions and typing out your responses to each question. If you do well during this portion, the recruiter will let you know and you will go into the role-play phase. During this phase, the recruiter will explain the process and provide you with a packet about a fake company. You will have approximately 20 minutes to go through the packet, highlight/circle/underline anything of importance, and learn about some of the individual situations from the people who will be calling you. I received a total of 3 phone calls during the role-play. During this phase, they are looking for excellent customer service, your ability to stay calm under pressure, sticking to the company’s policy, and promoting any new/better services. Also, do not be afraid to put them on a brief hold if you need a second to calm your nerves or to look into some more information about their issue. After you complete that round, the recruiter will come back into the room and schedule a time for you to come back into the office to shadow a top performing agent for one hour and a supervisor for another hour. I was able to schedule this for the following week. Finally, you will have your interview with the Director of the department and the coordinator of the program. The coordinator will provide you with more details about the program, how scheduling works, where and how to seek support during the orientation process, ask if you’d ever be willing to relocate, and provide an estimated timeline of how things will flow throughout the program. The director will discuss pay and ask some similar questions from the previous two interviews. This is really the time to sell yourself and to let the director know why GEICO would be a great fit for you both professionally and personally. After my Director interview, I received a call the next day from an HR recruiter letting me know that they wanted to offer me the job! I received my offer letter via email two days later where I had instructions on how to complete the drug test within 72 hours of accepting the offer and how to complete my background check. Final tips: Ask questions in all interviews and shadowing, let them know that you plan to be at GEICO long-term, emphasize how coachable you are, let them know that you are flexible with scheduling, and be yourself.

      Interview

Went through one 30 min and one 60 min phone interview and 2 assessments. Both of the phone interviews were so faceless and it was just question after question. After all that, I wake up to an email saying I wasn't moving on to the last round. Such a Micky mouse organization.

      Interview

I applied for the MDP program in the Tristate area at the end of March. As I was prepping for the interview I looked on Glassdoor For tips but from my experience I believe a lot of our experiences will be different depending on where you are applying as my interview timeline seemed to be a little different from some reviews I read. So don’t depend on these reviews to be the exact same interview experience and timeline. One thing i will say is even though the process is long they move through the process fairly Quickly so as long as you are also applying for other opportunities it won’t feel like such a dragged out process. Most of the time you will get feedback the same day you complete a step. I also did not do a pre recorded hire vue video interview like some people did on here. 1) Contacted by recruiter to send transcript and availability for a preliminary phone interview. 2) spoke with recruiter about general overview on program, reviewed experiences on my resume, why geico and touched on brief leadership experiences from past jobs. Also talked about general job behaviors like how many times were you late and how many times did you call Out? I suggest answering these as if you never called out or were late because if you answer otherwise you will be called out for it. 3) first sent behavioral assessment with a virtual Customer service simulation. The next day i was sent the caliper assessment that goes into detail about your personality management style and logical questions. 4) few days later after calipher I was invited to compete a second phone interview a week later where they asked me situational STAR questions and about where else I’m applying and how does geico compare to My other options. This interview seems like they want to get to know about your management style, more in depth information about your leadership experience and how interested you actually are in this position. During this call The interviewer let me know immediately i will be moving on to the next step in the process which is a manager interview. I’m not sure if this is actually the last step or if this will be role play and then a final interview but from the wording it seems like this will be my last step. But my advice will be don’t depend on these reviews to give you the exact timeline on what to expect because it may differ depending on which location and MDP track you’re applying for. Just be honest and be yourself and don’t overthink it and you should do fine. This is my second time applying and I’m doing very well compared to the first time i applied two years ago and the first time i didn’t make it past the initial first phone interview. So if it’s meant to be and you don’t overly prepare you’ll do great! But don’t overthink it :)

Had a great interview with the interviewer, and then I was sent tests to take. I took one of the tests and felt I did well, but I was unable to take the second test due to a glitch. I attempted to contact the recruiter about this issue and she did not respond again.
