      Manager In Training/Assistant Manager Interview

      28 Feb 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Free People in Jan 2018

      Interview

I applied online and received a email regarding an interview time. Wasn't able to make the group interview so I rescheduled for an interview with just the Store Brand Leader (Store Manager). The interview was solid, very comfortable and easy. We had great conversation and really connected. She seemed very interested and made many gestures towards giving me an offer. I was passed along for a second interview with the DM almost immediately via phone. That also was fluid, easy and was told things that insinuated that I may be hired. I was also told the position was not currently open at the time but that they are thinking that it will open up soon. Almost even saying that the current ASM wasn't performing up to standard. Super unprofessional in itself. I understand creating a bench but that is not information that you give out. I was told I would be reached out to within the week. I received an email from the Store Brand Leader within days telling me to fill out a morale survey online with a link to it and then I was asked to give my references. Thinking wow I totally have this position. WRONG. I hear nothing back for over a week so I reach out and hear nothing back. Call/text my references and they haven't received any calls so I start to think that it is super strange I was even asked. Then I call the store four days later thinking that maybe she just didn't receive my text. I am then told very directly that there is no timeline at all really and that she understands if I need to accept a position elsewhere. But that she would be in contact... strange. So then three weeks later I reach out in an email saying that I will be taking time off and that I will be open whenever the position becomes available. I also mention how excited I am and that I hope I am still considered for the position. I don't even receive an email back for 7 days that states that the position has just been filled and that they would be happy to keep in touch for future openings. Like what, I thought the position was already filled.... Then while scrolling through LinkdIn I see that one day ago the position was posted. So shady. If you do not want to hire someone just tell them from the get go, I was literally strung along for a solid month. Unfortunately that was one of the most unprofessional interview process and encounters I have ever had.
