I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Apple (Rochester, NY) in Oct 2018
Interview
Very relaxed and straightforward interviewer. They are very interested in knowing how you come across and how you describe your work. If you discuss previous jobs or experience they will ask you detailed questions to make sure that you really know your material.
Afterwards, they follow into a set of technical questions, which are usually related to the position they are offering. For example, the position they were looking to fill was for an imaging scientist, and they asked questions that related to waveguide-based displays, probably for some sort of AR/VR technology (although they didn't describe the details).
Interview questions [3]
Question 1
How would you structure a waveguide/grating to emit light vertically/away from the structure, so that it can be imaged by a conventional optical system?
I had a 15 to 20 mins chat with the recruiter, who described what the role was about and what skills they are looking for. Then the recruiter set up a technical interview with a hiring manager for me.
The interviewer came late and asked nonsense. He behaved super unprofessional and eat during the interview process. Finally, he ended the meeting 10 mins earlier. Bad experience and cautious about people related to manufacturing.
Initial recruiter screening followed by 5 technical interviews with members of the engineering team. The interviews focused on my experience, problem-solving approach, and technical knowledge relevant to optical systems and instrumentation.

Asked me about TEM modes, and optical fiber outputs
