Pros

The mission is amazing, and they’re great and hiring incredible people. Given how many employees get hired and then quit, you’ll make a lot of great friends!

Cons

You see the Facebook posts and you follow the Instagram page. Everything looks cute and you think you’d love to be a part of the team, I get it. But trust me, don’t waste your time or labor working here. Beyond the very positive public image, the organization is a disaster internally. Management is untrained and unqualified with no real work experience outside the nonprofit. The founder consistently makes inappropriate remarks; from racist comments, to rape jokes, to renaming employees. The work environment often becomes hostile between employees and management. In my two year tenure with the company I can count over 20 employees that have been on the team and quit (plus a handful more that have been fired, some justified some not) because of the same issues that never get resolved. This turnover rate is especially startling given the average staff size floats around 15 people. Instead of listening o employees and addressing their concerns, management will make deals with employees to get them to quit. Favoritism and nepotism play a role in employee treatment. Overall it’s just a very unethical and hostile place to work for. Employees are not valued and the mindset of management is, “if you have a problem then you should leave,” and employees that bring concerns to management are often called “ungrateful.” In response to my letter of resignation the founder responded with, “what a joke.” If you’re reading this, you’re better than this organization. Keep looking for a more respectable work environment. In the two years I worked there, nothing changed or got better. It’s a cycle of employee harassment and mismanagement.

It's all a facade! Stay away from SHADY Lane! Don't trust them!

Pros

The cause, of course, although I'm not convinced providing material things for kids significantly impacts them. It seems like a gimmick for public image. Travel seems cool if you're flexible with last minute notice and flying across the country for less than 24 hours, 1 night minimum trips with the worst flight options Free Lunch Friday is cool... if you're into cheap, unhealthy fast food

Cons

CEO treats employees and kids in foster care like numbers. CEO won't pay for transportation or parking at airport when you're asked to travel for work. Justifies the situation by saying you're responsible for getting to work and compares getting to the airport to getting to your place of work. Mandatory unpaid week for holiday break, not optional like they advertised. Creative job posting makes it sound like a dream job and culture. They have creative marketing for everything they do. Unorganized, unethical, and unprofessional. Executive Director and CEO aren't on the same page. One says one thing and the other says something else. Executive Director is overextended and won't delegate responsibilities. She takes on way too much. The one human resources lady is so disorganized. She takes forever to get back to you. Essentially, she is a puppet on the CEO's string Benefits don't apply for 6 months and even then they're only half paid by company. CEO does not care about his employee's wellness CEO likes being surrounded by young high school and college grads who don't question his unprofessional ways and are easy to control since they don't know any better Heavy turnover. No job security or stability. HR suddenly terminates employees by email when they leave for the day on Friday. No face to face meeting or phone call.

Awesome Mission, Horrible Work Environment

Pros

People who work there (besides management) are awesome. Loved my coworkers and the work we were doing for kids in foster care. Felt like you were making somewhat of a difference and had a rewarding job where you were able to help foster children.

Cons

Management is horrible. They clearly have no idea how to run an office or even act as an ethical employer. The CEO is downright disrespectful and constantly makes backhanded compliments to all of the employees. Not to mention he takes a huge pay cut for himself and clearly embezzles money from the company, down to his new house and his Jaguar. The Executive Director makes excuses for him and doesn't know how to be a boss because all she tries to do is be friends with everyone instead of act like our employer. Overall, they put on a huge facade on social media but they're both extremely greedy and care only about money. If only these foster children knew what this company was really about, it's truly heartbreaking that they have potential to be a good company but that won't ever happen unless they have good management.
