The company might fail

Pros

The only good aspect is the work-life balance. Working overtime is not often needed, and everyone regularly takes their holidays.

Cons

The compensation is significantly below the market average. Senior management lacks capability, and aside from the former CIO - who was the only true quant - the other PMs are way much below industry standards. The work environment is highly political. Senior PMs are very insincere - they rely on politics and manipulation to compensate for their lack of competence, always attempting to mislead both the CEO and their researchers. There is no career growth. There are no exit opportunities if you stay too long. My advice to new joiners (if you don’t have other offers) is to aim to leave within two years at most.

Pros

Good benefits, including health and dental insurance; good work-life balance (though the workload might feel a bit light); and opportunities to travel to the Geneva office.

Cons

No clear definition of perimeters, no project ownership. As a researcher, you often contribute to strategies not owned by anyone, and the management (based in Jersey and Geneva) has no clue of who is adding value. Even worse, you can unexpectedly be moved to another team to compensate for departures to work on a completely different asset class making it impossible to build solid knowledge foundation on a specific type of products.

Pros

Robust systems, centralized execution desk, and full access to all strategy code.

Cons

Not a meritocracy at all. Compensation is tied to overall company performance rather than individual contributions. Quite poor since inception, see the performance of the flagship strategy Bluetrend in drawdown for more than three years as an example...
