Pros

Good pay, and an interesting product.

Cons

- there is no internal QA and most developers do not bother to write tests for their code, leading to a constant state of crisis and customer emergencies - many nights and weekends working to resolve said crises - no recognition for more competent engineers, in a perverse way you have more visibility if you code more slowly and your work has more bugs - employees are routinely laid off without warning or severance pay

Sorry to hear you had this experience. I realize this was written a long time ago, but what you state is completely inaccurate and bears no resemblance to SBDS today. No QA? Really? We have a highly automated and rigorous QA process, which includes individual unit tests at the developer level, up through multiple levels throughout the build process, culminating in an automated series of integration testing. No code is released without going through this very structured process. This discipline is the case for all types of release, including patches. And the results are obvious in our customer sites, where StrongLink is solving problems no other solution can do. Our developers work in a team environment, are highly skilled in a culture that encourages innovation and collaboration. Everything top to bottom is done within a Structured Agile Framework, with clear deliverables and process to avoid just the panic that you are suggesting. Which is why our software is deployed in some of the very largest data environments on earth, with scale-out capabilities that are unrivaled in our space.

Pros

Clean software architecture Planned new product seems to fill a niche with market demand

Cons

Essentially no software project management - critical customer delivery missed by months Essentially no social work environment - each programmer is a silo. People don't even go out to lunch together. Hierarchical technical management - management does not allow programmers to have a mind of their own or work as a team One manager insults employees for making understandable mistakes. Not cool.

Thank you for your review. We realize that during the company transition there were some hurdles to overcome. We have taken your feedback and made some significant changes. We have brought in an experienced product/project manager, scrum master, and marketing manager. We have replaced the software architect that introduced a lot of the challenges mentioned here. We have daily stand-ups that are an open forum for the development team to introduce new ideas and work together to tackle an issue. We have implemented many of these ideas into the products already. We are truly an agile team. We have a completely open-door policy. Every single person in our company all the way up to the CEO is on Slack and just a message or phone call away. In short we believe we have made the personnel changes needed to remove the negativity and silo-effect from the team. Our company culture is much stronger now, I can promise you that.

Pros

None at all, avoid at all cost

Cons

This company suffers from a distinct lack of imagination and class. The management is some of the worst I have seen and dealt with in a long while. They take your work and ideas and completely squash anything that might work and transform them into long, sloppy and overly complicated procedures. I worked on fixing the database, putting together email and call templates, put together social media strategies and could've turned this into something successful. Instead they put an ignoramus in charge who is focused on helping the company fail. I was mistreated and made to feel like I could not do my job properly, nevermind them not giving me any tools to succeed besides the ones I built, but dismissed constantly. Don't expect any training, don't expect any support and don't expect any communication other than constant criticism and pressure. From the CEO down, this company has proven to be a mess, with not capability or willingness to listen to the people that matter. I would advise job seekers to look elsewhere, because you will not find stability here at all. The company is full of users. There were absolutely zero processes in place, and I had to build everything up and clean up the database from years of neglect. I put together templates, marketing strategies and brought ideas to the table that were all shut down. This company suffers from a lack of imagination and treats it's employees poorly, while management constantly tells you what you can't do.

Thank you for your comment. Let's not forget that you were given significant opportunity to thrive as an inside sales rep. Instead, despite significant repeated efforts to train you, you decided to do things your own way rather than working with the team. You say you created marketing strategies, which is an outright falsehood. Firstly, that was not your job. Secondly, what you did was not in alignment with the marketing team. You tried to create your own parallel initiative, without the background needed to get it right, and without the continuity with our core messaging. As an inside sales rep, your job was nurture leads and get meetings. Those are what you are measured on. After six months you still couldn't articulate the value proposition coherently, despite multiple training sessions. And the lack of results after providing you with months to get it figured out is why you are no longer here. You had all the tools needed to be successful. You had a team who tried to work with you. But you had your own ideas of what to do. That's on you.
