Pros

Known as an outstanding company at the surface

Cons

Throughout my employment at Nala, I argued most of the time with management and HR as this startup has so much shoddy things behind its mesmerizing cover on medias. Good reviews representing internal personnels on Instagram are duressed by HR on behalf of management satisfaction. Deeper, they always seek for feedbacks, inputs, and filling in surveys but never take those notes further into real actions. A very unpretentious instance is management collected poll on that day and another day, the final decision will be decided unilateral. This behaviour occurs in recurrent times and end up with employees disatisfaction, high turn over within the company. It is tragic to discern relentless great employees' resignation in Nala regularly while management still acts like everything is fine and never try being transparent. Financial matters are shady and the CEO always states that the company was not aiming for revenues, which is leading to equivocal company's vision anf mission.

Pros

- Products are innovative and exceptional, although lacks development. - Co-workers are collaborative, and working space is friendly.

Cons

1. Management level are not capable or leading employees and directing companies towards a clear goal. CEO is too inexperienced to hold the position, and never in her life worked as an employee prior to this position. Her only working experience is as an intern, and has zero knowledge and charisma to properly lead employees. Tends to blame and point fingers to other teams for the lack and failures of the team that she leads (Business Dev). Shallow knowledge of products, yet still demands unfeasible results and impossible deadlines without proper context. Never as much as say hello to others in the office and always cooped up in her private working space, making us feel like strangers in our very own working space. Generally toxic behavior and upbringing. COO is very cooperative, but is a yes-man to the CEO. Any decisions are made by CEO, and COO will justify the decision towards the employee. Any sympathy she gives toward employees seems sincere and genuine, but not backed up by actions, likely constrained by CEO. I personally know many employees and former employees who left/considering to leave due to CEO's toxic traits. 2. Directions of the company is very unclear. Product development timeline changes every week due to Management's erratic and volatile decision that can change in days, resulting in extreme product roadmap pivots and unachieved goals due to numerous detours. In the end team members will get the blame for not achieving goals. 3. Imbalanced employee composition. Teams that are responsible to develop products are constantly reduced, resulting in team members holding 2-3 people's worth of task, and often across divisions to offset the fact that almost all teams do not have sufficient employees. At the same time, HR and Management constantly expand and hires Business Devs, with no improvement in sales. The only thing they contribute is the number of leads and potential buyers, but no new clients and additional incoming source of revenue. BS team are also notorious for being hard to work with. Always demand for help to other teams (Product, Field Application, Ops), blames them for not completing BD's jobdesc, uses too much work as excuse but with no apparent result. Always look the busiest, but yield the lowest result. And too many unpaid interns in the company. 4. Benefits are awful. Bonus was promised, but delayed in being given out. HR and CEO did not specify for how long. Salary increment was promised after year-end review, but HR sent out a clarifying letter saying there are no salary increments this year. In previous year, Outstanding Performance was compensated with a raise that equals to the inflation, which should be the baseline. Very stingy, yet goes on hiring spree for BD members. Companies never provide teambuilding events or activities (aside from the BD team) if the Singapore team is not involved. Any activities in Indonesia office (potlucks, gift exchange, sports) are all funded by our own employees. HR never cares about Indonesia team. I personally feel very stunted in this company. Ideal career path that I had planned is ruined as they promised career progression but never given out even after achieving goals and beyond. If anything, my portfolio looks worse now compared to before working here, as during my time here there are no progression in career path and job title. The only difference is now I am working 3x as much as back then. Summary : Management and HR is very apathetic and uninterested in the employee's growth and well-being. Mainly due to the fact that CEO's lack of working experience and substandard knowledge in running companies. Individuals that are taken care of are the ones catering to the CEO (HR lead, BD team, COO to an extent).

Great place for experimenting as a freshie

Pros

In 2022, the people are very nice and helpful. It's easy to collaborate even though the team is split in Jakarta and Singapore. The company has potential and meaningful work. Companies have a low threshold on the skills required to work here. If you enjoy being thrown with new challenges every day, then you will feel comfortable working here. Great place for internships and fresh graduates as enthusiasm is valued more than real skills.

Cons

1. Management also doesn't like to listen to feedback. It often feels like management is waiting for someone else to come in and run the company while they just want to focus on BD or ops. 2. Most good people go to greener pastures elsewhere and new hires are more interested in following what management says than doing the right thing. For example- HR forces people to write positive things about the company and share them on Instagram. If you don't agree, you will be branded as poison and slowly isolated. 3. The ever-changing product roadmap and company direction. Every week new things will be thrown in depending on the wishes and desires of the CEO. There is no long-term vision and plan for the company. 4. Randomly working on unreasonable projects in unnecessary short timeline that leave staff feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. None of the projects launch properly. Initiatives started with media attention but quietly closed after few months. 5. New ideas are valued more than good ideas. If that sounds fancy and exciting then management loves you no matter how bad the idea is. Experienced people are ignored and sometimes even sidelined because they ask questions about these bad ideas. You'll be branded a "blocker" if you say the idea is problematic. 6. Management is biased towards Singapore and pays little attention to employees in Indonesia. Better benefits for the Singapore team compared to the benefits in Indonesia. 7. The culture adopted by management is very different from the culture that is actually followed in the company. There is no transparency in the company and inquiries are not welcome. 8. No work-life balance. Constant pressure to chase one random project after another. Constant requests to do something at night and show it the next morning, and then no questions asked about it for another 2-3 days. Makes people wonder why they have to do it overnight if it's not urgent. 9. No financial planning or budgeting. So no one knows how much is allowed to spend and how much is not.
