I worked for Marketsource, formerly Salelytics, for about 6 months. When I was hired, the employment terms were clearly defined: full-time schedule (40 hours/week), paid holidays, and 20 days of PTO (paid time off). After working there for a few months, we had our first paid holiday. My paycheck did not include this paid holiday. I was not paid for it. I realized this when looking at my paycheck. I inquired about it to my manager, and I was informed that I actually don't get paid holidays. I was told that if I want to get paid for a holiday, I have to use PTO. I was the only person in my office working under these terms.
As Christmas approached, I decided to use my PTO for a vacation of about 11 days. I requested the PTO, and it was approved by my manager.
As I was on my vacation and checking my bank account, I didn't see any deposits for my PTO. I emailed my manager. First he told me that I never requested it. I followed all protocol when asking for the PTO. I remember because I didn't know how to ask for PTO and one of my coworkers had to show me. I also personally spoke with my manager to confirm that it was ok tot take that many days of vacation in a row.
After my manager checked with HR, he told me that because I was a contracted, temporary worker, I didn't actually get PTO. I asked why I was not informed of this when I got hired, nor later when I asked for PTO and it was explicitly approved. My manager said he was unaware of it. When I returned from my UNPAID vacation, I told them that this is not what I signed up for, and I did not return to work.
The entire employment proposal I was given when hired was a lie. Additionally, they told me they offer health insurance. After I got hired and saw the insurance options, I decided not to get it because it would have cost about 1/4 of my monthly salary.
In conclusion, this company completely sucks. Their employment offer was a lie. Don't work for them. They are dishonest, unprofessional, and unorganized. They were dishonest during the hiring process and made no effort to apologize or correct their poor management. I do not recommend this company to anyone.
