Pros

Pay is competitive. Great benefits. Good home time. Good reputation. Good miles. Freight volume is consistent. Low turnover. Stable paychecks. Job security due to the Union.

Cons

15% give-back on pay since '09..."except for non-union management". Aged equipment although it is improving...non-management personnel morale suffers due to give-back. Too many new hires when it doesn't seem to make sense.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review and thank you for your service at Holland. Since we are always looking for ways to improve, we value and take all feedback into consideration. At Holland, we hire the best and most qualified individuals for each and every position at our terminals. I’m happy to see you have noticed our equipment is improving. The lack of investment in the fleet during the recession has caused a “bubble” of older equipment in both the tractor and trailer fleets. There is a five-year plan to reinvest in equipment, which will acquire 1,500 tractors from 2017-2020 and 3,100 trailers during the same time. This of course will help us replace the older equipment and eventually, we will be on the other side of the bubble and the fleet will reflect the investment! Our employees and customers are our top priority, and we are committed to providing a positive work environment for all of our employees. If you would like to discuss anything further, please feel free to contact me at HR2@usfc.com. Thanks again.

Pros

Benefits are outstanding and plenty of overtime with excellent job security after being accepted into union.

Cons

Its a union job so you just have to take what you get for work and shifts since its all seniority based. Its about 50% on the streets and 50% dock work. You will have to drive a Sterling sometimes.

Pros

THIS IS A REVENUE GENERATING POSITION. You will have almost guaranteed job security if you pay attention. You’ll have Freedom & Independence. Stable revenue generating position (for Holland) Excellent earning potential (for yourself) Make about a grand weekly...know your NMFC’s. Know what freight to look for on the dock/in trailers. Learn the systems...input the data...make your money.

Cons

What the hell is a con here? Can’t think of one so I’ll skip it.

Pros

the company provides free health insurance. there is plenty of overtime pay. it is a union job, meaning good job security and able to appeal write ups.

Cons

you work long hours, up to 14 per shift. seniority bidding for positions so little choice of what you do for the first few years. poor equipment, most are kept barely running by an overworked garage department

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We are constantly looking for ways to improve and take all feedback into consideration! I am glad to hear that you were happy with the company-paid health insurance and enjoyed your job security. That’s one of the things that sets Holland apart from other LTL carriers in the region. The lack of investment in the fleet during the recession has caused a “bubble” of older equipment in both the tractor and trailer fleets. There is a 5-year plan to reinvest in equipment. Through that plan there will be 1,500 tractors acquired between 2017–2020 and 3,100 trailers during the same time frame. This will enable us to replace older equipment. Eventually, we will be on the other side of the bubble and the improved fleet will reflect the investment.

Pros

Work rules keeps everyone in line and understand what their role provides and responsibilities are for holland. Vacation benefits are okay.

Cons

Long hours, no bonus, do more with less, no technology, old equipment falling apart, lazy union environment that's corrosive to the company as a whole.

Pros

Job security, benefits, and contrary to what my first review stated: a LOT of new equipment. Thanks CARES act! Seniority is law, and is grieved when violated. Special treatment, or mistreatment of individuals is not tolerated. For line haul: comprehensive compensation (get paid clock time for almost everything, including too much wait time in the hotel). Daycabs only; you too can feel like a civilized human being with a hotel room, and shower every day you’re not at home. For city: Overtime after 8, and time-and-half for volunteer weekend shifts (or double time, I can’t remember)

Cons

Currently going through 5 a year merger to bring all Yellow Corp subsidiaries into a more unified organizational structure. There’s frustrations, and growing pains to it. Every terminal has its own set of rules; be prepare to get talked down to by the locals for not knowing all of *their* rules. Tag axles with smart valves (gross). 63 Mph (boredom drool) For line-haul open board drivers at end-of-the-line terminals: central dispatch is required to follow work rules for dispatch on a every day of the week except Friday. Often times that means that you’ll be entitled to a Thursday night dispatch that takes you too far from home to make it back home on your Friday dispatch, and you will therefore be ‘hung-out’. However, you can make requests to be home Saturday morning, but are then subject to a forced Sunday night dispatch. Which bring me to one of the biggest cons of line-haul at this company: a six-day work week. Until you have the seniority to hold a 5-day bid, or preference out of Sunday loads, you may be working a lot of six-day weeks, especially in the busy season.
