Pros

work from home no sales quotas to meet opportunities for travel and mingle with many peers in your industry there are good people who work for this company, sadly, most of them aren't in management.

Cons

100% commission structure, split 50/50 commissions with the company, no benefits and you pay for all your flights to meetings, to set up your home office with landline, fax, computer, printer, etc. You grow your own client base, which is fine, but your Regional Mgmt has all your passwords to your email and account management system - it's a HUGE conflict of interest as they are going after clients as well and can dictate your career path. Corporate will let you go in a blink with NO warning, NO call, NO notice - just shut down your email and systems and take all your hard work and livelihood away instantly or they will force you out if they want you to go. They will keep your email open, even after you're gone, monitoring it and respond to all the leads you sourced. Unethical company on all fronts! Ask around and ask people who have previously worked for HB, ask people who have made President's Club, make sure you know what you're getting into!

Pros

The best thing about my experience with HB was knowing what type of culture and people I didn't want to work for. I would have liked them better in their earlier days when they actually appreciated their associates. At this 2014 point in their business plan, it's only about the revenues. It is certainly not about respecting their associates. The pros for this experience was learning to 'get the hell out' when I did. The industry doesn't have great things to say about HB - ask any hotelier. Bigger is not BETTER! If you are interested in this work - find a smaller organization who will appreciate 'you' and give you a more 'fair' distribution of commission.

Cons

HB senior leadership team is comprised of only men. It is a chauvinistic company who is disrespectful to female associates, which consists of more than 70% of the population. Corporate greed is the virus that permeates HB. As a top producer (only 100 per year then) having given more than $70k of revenues to head office per annum, the senior management didn't know my name if they tripped over me. As top producer they didn't even upgrade our hotel room! Ironic isn't that! LOL! Never mind offer to pay anything for our airfare.

Pros

You can work from home on your own schedule.

Cons

What they don't tell you is that all of the good clients are already taken and you have to scrape and beg for a new client. Hotels don't like working with them anymore because they take commission on clients that were already going to their hotels. Its not quite a scam but close. Everything is out of your pocket, nothing is reimbursed. Clients expect you to pay for the site tours, but if they don't pick your hotel you are out all the money.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you feel your experience with HelmsBriscoe was not a positive one. While our client base is certainly an extensive one, our Associates are identifying new clients to work with each and every day. With the meetings and events industry continuing to grow, and most companies hosting at least one meeting or event annually, the possibilities of locating and working with new clients are nearly endless. However, clients do not often fall into the laps of our Associates. Our Associates must be willing to put in the time and effort to build up their client base, and achieve their own success as independent contractors of HelmsBriscoe. Regarding our commission-only model - our model is 100% transparent and has remained the same for the last 25 years. We have strong partnerships with nearly all major hotel brands who support the value we bring to their properties and destinations using this model. In addition, with our commission-only model, our Associates benefit from unlimited earning potential, which comes with hard work and dedication to their own success. Our corporate team is also always here to assist our Associates any way we can to ensure they have the tools and support they need to achieve this success. Our continued growth as a company, the overwhelming success of our Associate base, and our extensive industry partnerships are a testament to the fact that our model is trusted, and works. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
