Pros

You can work from home on your own schedule.

Cons

What they don't tell you is that all of the good clients are already taken and you have to scrape and beg for a new client. Hotels don't like working with them anymore because they take commission on clients that were already going to their hotels. Its not quite a scam but close. Everything is out of your pocket, nothing is reimbursed. Clients expect you to pay for the site tours, but if they don't pick your hotel you are out all the money.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you feel your experience with HelmsBriscoe was not a positive one. While our client base is certainly an extensive one, our Associates are identifying new clients to work with each and every day. With the meetings and events industry continuing to grow, and most companies hosting at least one meeting or event annually, the possibilities of locating and working with new clients are nearly endless. However, clients do not often fall into the laps of our Associates. Our Associates must be willing to put in the time and effort to build up their client base, and achieve their own success as independent contractors of HelmsBriscoe. Regarding our commission-only model - our model is 100% transparent and has remained the same for the last 25 years. We have strong partnerships with nearly all major hotel brands who support the value we bring to their properties and destinations using this model. In addition, with our commission-only model, our Associates benefit from unlimited earning potential, which comes with hard work and dedication to their own success. Our corporate team is also always here to assist our Associates any way we can to ensure they have the tools and support they need to achieve this success. Our continued growth as a company, the overwhelming success of our Associate base, and our extensive industry partnerships are a testament to the fact that our model is trusted, and works. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

HelmsBriscoe offers a rare blend of autonomy, flexibility, and supportive leadership. You’re empowered to run your business while knowing you have a team behind you that leads with clarity and integrity.

Cons

The role is fully commission-based, which may feel challenging for those who prefer a more traditional compensation structure. However, for self‑motivated individuals who enjoy building long-term client relationships, the earning potential is significant once you establish your book of business.

Pros

Learn about the hotel industry, meet some cool people in the events world

Cons

HelmsBriscoe does nothing and takes half of your commission. They also won't help you collect any past due funds, they won't do any marketing, they don't send you leads, they don't do anything, except let you use their name. It's not all it's crack up to be after you join. You realize you get throw in with the sharks and see some associates get treated with favoritism as they get assigned top big name group accounts, where they work in groups. Then all divide up the commission for big companies that do a ton of events. The associates that get asked to join are only asked if you are someone's friend or favorite if you didn't originally find the account. I suspect that's one reason some of the people make any money. But if you're a lone shark left to fend for yourself, you're not going to make very much doing this full time, unless you started a long time ago like some of the old -timers who have their accounts set for life. If you're new looking to join, unless you come with 20 new clients ready to do 20 events a year, don't expect the company do do anything to help you make any money. If anything they will expect you do all the work and then expect you to pay them half of it.
