Good for when you 'need to make a living right now', but not for long term growth.
Pros
- The work isn't difficult to perform. It's just a matter of putting in the effort to do it fast and do it well. - Decent competitive for the minimum wage presented by many other businesses. - Secure job sector in construction. - Helps build up personal skills with tools that can be applied at home or with personal projects at home if you do that sort of thing.
Cons
- Inconsistent work hours; Such is the nature of construction work, however, when the work is slow, it tends to be slow for a couple of months at a time. However, the daily inconsistency on a week to week basis makes it next to impossible to schedule other things after your work day finishes unless it's a late afternoon/night activity. No after work doctor appointments. - If you need need time off work for a day or simply need to come into work a few hours late, you can't just take a few hours off, you need to take the whole day off. - Taking time off work REQUIRES you to use any PTO you have accrued, regardless of whether you'd like to or not, and the PTO is extremely slow to build up. You earn about 2 hours a week or so, and this is consistent up to 3 years employed or possibly more. - While the work is mostly done indoors, many projects do not have actively working AC or Heat depending on the time of year, so naturally an uncomfortable work environment is common. - Very fast paced work environment, so unless you're able to learn well and fast, you'll feel a lot of pressure to continue outputting a lot of production.
