Pros
Benefits and plenty of non negotiable overtime. Government job. It’s a 6 day work week, and you’re getting overnight shift, without question, until you have some serious tenure under your belt. Vacation time off is 4weeks per year. Paid. 401k, retirement pay after 10 years. Union. Cola raises. Discounts at companies. Benefits and plenty of non negotiable overtime. Government job. Cons
Starting pay is low. Monotony was the obvious con. Frankly, my perspective with my tenure is all memories of an almost agonizing, mentally taxing work environment & sleep/wake patterns. Basically, the fluorescent lights, extraordinarily long walks which are necessary for breaks (15min STRICTLY ENFORCED), the grueling willpower it took just to show up... punch in and follow 123 abc, then clock out, DREADING returning the next day, and having every holiday taken away just became too much for a person without a family to support. It’s a 6 day work week, and you’re getting overnights without question. Getting enough sleep seemed futile, yet eluded me
