Great place to work but talent does get wasted - Software Engineer Nuance Employee Review

Pros

There is a lot of diversity, great staff, generally good work atmosphere, lots of social events and sometimes freebies. The compensation packages are fair and the benefits are great (especially the 20 vacation days that everyone gets right away, i.e. not based on seniority). It is also an interesting business field and the company is the leader in it.

Cons

A lot of talent gets wasted. They love hiring individuals with higher degrees and are doing a great job recruiting them, but these individuals get placed into junior positions that don't make use of their training. Not a lot of opportunities for intellectual growth. The development work is not that challenging (especially in the Enterprise team).

Pros

The company offers excellent training and a thorough onboarding process, helping new hires feel well-prepared and confident. The small, close-knit teams foster a collaborative and supportive work environment where you never feel lost in the crowd. Employees take pride in the innovative technology and software being developed, which is recognized as impactful within the industry. (Note: The company was acquired by Microsoft to bring potential for future growth.)

Cons

While the company excels in many areas, there’s limited upward mobility, especially in certain career paths, which can be frustrating for those seeking advancement. Additionally, feedback from employees often feels like it’s not taken seriously, which can lead to disengagement when trying to influence change or improve processes.
