Pros

1: There are indeed many opportunities for you to work for big companies, especially in the financial industry. Some positions are indeed very good opportunities for fresh graduates. 2: For Hong Kong, the monthly pay is acceptable for a first job. And your pay will increase with the time you spend in your placements. 3: Training program is a great refresh of your communication and coding skills. You will be picking up some basic concepts, doing some basic coding exercise and training your communication skills before you start your interview with the placements. 3: Basically companies pay a premium to FDM to hire you, and the premium keeps FDM running as a company. So in some sense, if you work hard and accumulate your reputation, you are likely to get a better compensation for the job after your contract with FDM.

Cons

1: Opportunities are not guaranteed. Luck is a major factor in this company. You need to work hard, have the right knowledge of course, but having a good placement sometimes depend on luck too. In FDM, given the wide range of FDM's customer, sometimes luck will push you to different industries (Financial, FMCG, Utilities) too. This is fair but do know this risk before you join. 2: No year-end bonus. 3: You have no information about your work place, work pattern (remote or on-site), workload and even industry before your placement. Work life balance depends on you placement. But some placements, including mine, are really great in terms of WLB. 4: You will only receive internship level compensation before your first placement. However, from my observation this period would not be too long (in my case are only 14 days, and one of my batchmate is 0 day). But again, this is not guaranteed, you need to work hard and perform well for the interview. 5: The potential legal obligation if you leave FDM before your contract end (In my case, two years after my start of the first placement with FDM).

Pros

It is a job that pays.

Cons

They will promise you opportunities that don't exist. The company they contract you to will promise you work that you will not be assigned. I was a Java Consultant with a masters degree in Math and certificate in full stack and I was shoved into a manual testing position that required zero coding and constantly dangled automation in front of my face. When I was asked to look at Selenium, I studied it in some of the copious amounts of downtime i had and was reprimanded during the next meeting for 'wasting company time'. I moved from Texas to New Jersey for my first position. After contracts with the company were terminated, I was pulled off my assignment only to be abruptly fired for "lack of geoflexibility" despite willingness to move to several places they do business including NYC and even Denver. There is no accountability from them as the only response they give is "the decision is final". There is no way to appeal a blatant lie. Their company has no integrity and side with business majors over people that know how chemicals and physics and electrical components work just seem like bad life decisions. They will say you can reapply but they won't hire you. They'd full of it at every angle.
