Pros
The team you create in your store is one you will try your upmost to protect from the absolutely toxic politics and vulgar bully behaviours from the senior managers. New CEO has just come in to the business and has a huge task at hand to clear out the bully’s and underhanded mobs in the senior leadership roles.
Cons
Endless workload with no thanks, cut after cut after cut on payroll and expectations are higher and higher with no gratitude. Area managers are under the cosh from the regional manager who has zero people skills and should be ashamed of her behaviours and constant bullying and undermining. Rules with fear and likes to make her presence known, and if you say anything other than yes to her she will make your life a living hell and pulls the strings of the area managers to push people out the business. It’s a shame as the emphasis on treating teams in store with dignity and respect is very high on the agenda on a daily basis. This senior leader herself would learn a lot from a few lessons in basic people management and recognising how hard store managers are working just to keep the stores running to a basic standard. Come and spend some time on the shop floors, land a relay, land a seasonal implementation on the resources you say it’s possible to deliver on. You are pulling payroll out of stores to the detriment of each and every one of your store managers. Zero work life balance, working 55/60 hours a week on a contract of 40 hours a week. Promise of time back but it never happens and often find yourself working work days off and coming in when on Holliday just to cover the core shifts in store.
