Pros
The engineers are very archetypal, passionate in what they do and constantly pushing for more innovative solutions and delivery methods. Lots of internal R&D work called “Invest in Arup”. No pressure to deliver, make it really easy for junior engineers. Lots of flexibility for working hybrid and moving hours around, managers don’t track where you are.
Cons
Because the junior staff don’t have pressure to actually work full time, be in the office, or produce deliverable, the onus is on mid-level engineers to do most of the production work. There should be more accountability required from team members. Also, the firm advocates itself as promoter of sustainability, but works with many clients and architects who push for less efficient design or don’t care about the cost of materials or the carbon emissions. This creates a disconnects where actual designs are less sustainable than advertised.
