I have been working at Edelman full-time

    Pros

    - Very experienced senior colleagues across the business who you can learn from daily - Interesting and challenging client base - Sophisticated offering of central services (Edelman Intelligence, Digital, Creative..etc.) - Paid a bonus this year

    Cons

    - Fairly long hours (but you are in change of your own work/life balance) - Pressure to take holiday when it suits the business rather than you - The values of the company are a bit of a joke considering some of the questionable clients we still work for

I worked at Edelman full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

PR focus - because the company was family-owned and independent from the ad agency monoliths, PR was front and centre of everything that happened. That meant is wasn't an afterthought. It was a great place to "learn the trade". Early Adopter - Edelman understood digital and convergence very early on and was a pioneering company. It was sneered at by bigger global competitors but it showed foresight and reaping... the benefits of today.

    Cons

Family ownership - as above it can have advantages, but also disadvantages. The company had a "US first, Rest of World second" mentality. Major decisions were made in the US and filtered through. Some global memos were cringeworthy and did not take cognisance of local cultures or values. Working in a European office felt like you were working in a franchise rather than part of a global team. Also, European... executive positions moved like a carousel, leaders never seemed to stay long. Career progression - This was a maze, without clarity. Very political and who you cosied up to. You had to push for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Use the current no.1 position to hire great people. Give employees some equity in the company.

I worked at Edelman full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Interesting clients. Smart colleagues. Growth opportunities. A culture of caring about development and feedback and improvement, though there's not always time for this.

    Cons

Work work work work work. Need to retain top mid-level talent more to push out some of the middling top-talent, allowing for smoother processes and better work-life balance. More office politics than necessary.

    Advice to Management

Ease up on workload intensity to improve retention. In the medium and long run it'll help Edelman.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Full of lovely, clever, talented people who work hard for their clients and to create a great company. Hard work is recognised and rewarded. Generous holiday allowance. Flexible working actively encouraged. Nice perks like free breakfast, subsidised canteen, Thursday drinks. Good benefits package. This is a company that genuinely cares about their staff. They have quarterly, anonymous staff surveys covering all... aspects of life and work at Edelman and they take negative feedback very seriously and act upon it.

    Cons

The agency is huge (500?) and despite efforts to become an integrated communications consultancy is still siloed. Edelman has a creative department within it that is sadly under utilised by the majority of the business units who are still pure play old school PR.

    Advice to Management

Decide what you want to be - pure PR or a more generalist communications agency.
