I have been working at Edelman full-time

    Pros

    - Very experienced senior colleagues across the business who you can learn from daily - Interesting and challenging client base - Sophisticated offering of central services (Edelman Intelligence, Digital, Creative..etc.) - Paid a bonus this year

    Cons

    - Fairly long hours (but you are in change of your own work/life balance) - Pressure to take holiday when it suits the business rather than you - The values of the company are a bit of a joke considering some of the questionable clients we still work for

Thanks for your review. I'm glad you're impressed with your colleagues, the firm's centralized specialty offerings, your client exposure, and who doesn't love getting a bonus! Your comment about our values and clients bothers me. I hope you know that while I firmly believe we take all our firm values seriously, that if you've been asked to work on a client that is against your personal values, you can absolutely decline. Please discuss this with your local HR leader or reach out to me if you'd like. Maria O'Keeffe, Executive Director, US HR

I worked at Edelman full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

PR focus - because the company was family-owned and independent from the ad agency monoliths, PR was front and centre of everything that happened. That meant is wasn't an afterthought. It was a great place to "learn the trade". Early Adopter - Edelman understood digital and convergence very early on and was a pioneering company. It was sneered at by bigger global competitors but it showed foresight and reaping the benefits of today.

    Cons

Family ownership - as above it can have advantages, but also disadvantages. The company had a "US first, Rest of World second" mentality. Major decisions were made in the US and filtered through. Some global memos were cringeworthy and did not take cognisance of local cultures or values. Working in a European office felt like you were working in a franchise rather than part of a global team. Also, European executive positions moved like a carousel, leaders never seemed to stay long. Career progression - This was a maze, without clarity. Very political and who you cosied up to. You had to push for promotion.

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Supportive Management - Account Diversity - High profile clients - Expansive network/you can find an expert on basically anything within the network

    Cons

    - Little to no work-life balance - An expectation that 40hrs a week is not enough / you're not pulling your weight - Can be a bit catty at times - SO MUCH micromanaging - Low pay

I have been working at Edelman full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Best in the business, superb range of clients. Great place to make friends and you work with some of the smartest and hardworking people. You really do learn a lot

    Cons

Often long hours and developing a routine out of your work life can be difficult (this is the nature of PR though) - some senior staff can show a lack of respect to you and your time. Probation period is extremely long and can be extended (which was a nightmare when I was arranging accommodation). Promotions are a long winded process and you have to really push for it.
