Great people but bad management

Pros

You get to work with very nice people.

Cons

HR is a one person team with a lack of empathy. The company pretends to care about your well-being and feedback but if you bring issues up you are told there are no problems or that these issues are not real. There is also a lack of transparency regarding salaries, pay rises and promotions which seem to be driven by favouritism and, depending on your manager, sexism. A pay rise or promotion might only be obtained if you are in your manager’s good books, even though your work is top quality and you are not offered any feedback on improvements. Over time employees feel undervalued and resentment builds up. The politics of “get on with it or leave” is dominating, leading to very high turnover rates (which management or HR don’t seem to be concerned about).

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. It is obviously very disappointing to hear you felt like there is a lack of empathy as empathy is a core value at Ecometrica. We will actively take on board your comments and try to improve how we work and communicate, particularly as we grow. As a small company, we don’t have the same rigid pay structures that you might find in larger organisations, but we do link pay to progression and development, and seek to support and empower employees to forge their own path in line with company goals while providing more specific development objectives for specific roles. We want to ensure we provide an engaging working environment for all of our teams and we are constantly looking for ways to improve this. We would value your suggestions. If you would be open to a further discussion on this or equally, would like to discuss anything further, please email people@ecometrica.com.

Uncaring and dehumanising

Pros

It's fine as a stepping stone as long as you don't stay long, never expect a payrise or promotion, and *never* allow yourself to become invested in the work of the company. The actual workers were all fantastic people, and I made some good friends working there. They all deserve better than this

Cons

Management would rather not hear about problems than address them. They will claim to be supportive and caring right up until the point where anything needs to be *done*, at which point it becomes clear that *you* are the problem for talking about it. As an example, when staff mental health concerns were raised through the company's mental health support system, they removed that support system and replaced it with a less accessible one (which has itself been dropped since). I suppose there is always a chance that it was a coincidence that they removed the support system the moment it was actually seriously used, but I'm no longer willing to give the company that benefit of the doubt. There is a repeated pattern of requiring junior workers to perform the work of seniors, up to and including lying about their job titles to clients, all while denying promotions or payrises appropriate to the actual work being performed. There is a clear gender pay-gap at the company, and women are regularly subjected to harsher criticism and worse feedback than men performing equal work, bot of which management refuses to acknowledge. As an LGBTQ+ person, the general attitude of management to women at the company was enough to make me uncomfortable with being out at work, and I would seriously recommend looking elsewhere if you are concerned about being disadvantaged at work because of your gender. There areso many more problems than I could write here, so if you are considering working here, I'd *seriously* recommend reaching out to a current or former employee to ask about the company more, so at least you know what you're getting into. In conclusion, it's a company which seems to genuinely lack empathy and sees its workers as desposible. They believe the company functions perfectly, and if you disagree, then you are just not the right person for the company. It's a very dehumanising place to work.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. This was a particularly difficult review to read as an employer who takes the welfare of their employees very seriously. We are sorry you did not feel supported. Ecometrica strives to provide an excellent workplace experience for all employees but we know we can always do better. Regarding mental health, during Covid extra mental health offerings were needed and helpful. We have now returned to our normal offering which we hope remains robust through our private healthcare benefit but it is useful to hear that the previous offering is missed and so something we can look into. We aim to have a clear Junior-Intermediate-Senior development process and allow each individual to develop at their own pace working and provide salaries based on each person’s own particular background, experience and development within their role. We are proud of the diverse team we have and we strive to be as inclusive as possible in the way that we work across the company. However, we take onboard your comments and will continue to look for ways to continue to improve. We will continue to monitor our gender pay equity to ensure things remain fair across the board as possible. As part of our open communications we want to understand why people may choose to leave us and conduct Exit Interviews to help inform future changes. If you are open to further discussions we would value your opinion and would like to follow up on the issues raised here. Please email people@ecometrica.com.

Pros

Colleagues very friendly and always willing to help.

Cons

Management doesn’t care about the employees. When everything is going well it’s all great as soon as you bring up an issue they try to wear you down instead of listening. When multiple people leave at the same time suggesting that people aren’t happy about something, senior management don’t question what the issue could be behind the resignations. No transparency in pay or promotions. The pay gap between female and male employees with the same experience, start date and responsibilities is as high as 19% in some roles. When asked how to get the same pay (maybe it’s due to lack of skill one asks themselves) no specific instructions on what’s lacking and how to achieve the higher pay comes from managers. Some have no insight into how their team is actually working and how they are getting on with their day to day jobs. Clueless. It is thanks to team work and dedicated individuals that the team keeps on functioning. There is no point in going to HR as all you get is excuses and defensiveness.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and glad to hear you enjoyed working with the team and that you found everyone willing to help. We really value the supportive working environment everyone has helped to create at Ecometrica. However we are really disappointed to hear that you felt that management doesn’t care about employees as this is most certainly not the case however as an SME we are particularly aware there is always room for improvement. We aim to work closely with each employee to develop them in a way that aligns both with their own interests and brings commercial value to the company, but if you think this was not the case, we would be happy to have a further open discussion with you to enable us to improve. Please email us at people@ecometrica.com.
