Pros

CNA Is a safe and stable company that pays reasonably well for HR professionals CNA is a true meritocracy in the insureance industry sense of the word. The company rewards people who throw their colleagues under the bus. The way to get ahead at CNA is not to do good work, it is to avoid making nominal mistakes and to make sure to point out the mistakes of others to your superiors so you look good. CNA has very low expectations for its employees. It does not really expect it's people to do anything to improve things. All it wants is for its employees is to avoid making any mistakes and to make sure to report to leadership any time your colleagues make mistakes.

Cons

Mad Men, old boy 1950s-1960's stifling culture could be improved Company stubbornly refuses to embrace new tools and technologies or modern ways of managing employees CNA has negative reviews on Glassdoor about HR department deleted. There are at least 3 reviews from 2016 from HR Directors and HR business partners and Talent Acquisition Consultants that are truthful and within Glassdoors terms of service that have been deleted.

Pros

Despite what I will share in the 'Cons' section, CNA really does have some (keyword some!!) people who will give you career advice, and try to give you the best opportunity that they can. It's just a matter of what that one person can do for you in light of the larger organization... We also just moved into a brand new building which feels very start-up-like so that's pretty neat.

Cons

The culture is incredibly toxic. Management has been going through some pretty significant changes the last year and a half, which I think may have contributed to the cause of the toxic environment (for reference, I work in IT). I have never witnessed a people group so divisive, demeaning, egocentric, unhelpful, and sometimes even rude (I have worked in one other large corporation before working for CNA). I have witnessed AVPs and higher ignore major problems, even cases of serious sexual harassment with no gray area, and brush it under the rug because either they don't want to deal with it, or they think it will end up getting them in trouble. I have seen entire teams of people be let go without any explanation to the rest of IT as to why this is the best move for the company. It's even hard to get help from a lot of people because there's this stigma that if someone shares the information with you, they won't be as indispensable to CNA. It's really tough to work here and I know a lot of my colleagues feel the same. I'm honestly looking for another job right now so hopefully something pops up soon. I wouldn't recommend that anyone go work for CNA right now, especially people right out of college when you need all the help you can get.

Pros

Management cares about and invests in people here. I have people that look out for me and help be successful. I feel like I am part of building something here. There is a real opportunity to make a difference. I find that energizing.

Cons

This is a big company and that has inherent challenges. We are investing significantly in improving our technology but I think we are still behind a bit.
