Good experience - awful company

Pros

There are many young, multicultural, fun people in all teams that make the work environment bearable and your time in Malta an adventure. The only other positive thing is that the work experience looks great on your CV.

Cons

AquaBioTech is the worst company I have ever worked dor. Their "management" and company structure was micromanagement at its best. During their interviews they'll promise you the world but once you start working and speaking to your colleagues you quickly realise that you're trapped in a limited time contract (usually a few years) where you can only get out if you pay a huge penalty. The company needs to use this to threaten employees because without it many people would not stay longer than a few weeks/months. Salaries were very low, bonuses didn't exist (we had to buy our own work phones) and extra hours were normal. There was no flexibility and trust, and the employee's mental health and wellbeing did not seem to be particularly important to AquaBioTech. The employee turnover was high and experience and knowledge level were very low because experienced professionals won't accept their salary and contract conditions.

Pros

Met some amazing people that became friends eventually

Cons

Where do I even start? -micromanagement from the CEO, who also has severe anger issues, bullies employees, shouts, has a superiority complex and doesn't care at all who he is stepping on -huge conflict of interest (wife of CEO is HR director). Just a puppet who is ready to stab your back first chance she gets, after she tries to befriend you. -CEO and wifey both don't know how to control themselves or their emotions, stay professional. -lies all around - regarding your contract, regarding the environment at work, safety at work, growth opportunities and what else not. -minimal pay, salary increases promises never delivered, no bonuses, incentives, nothing at all. -blackmailing to make you stay in the company under the so called Maltese laws. -there is no safety whatsoever: mould everywhere - just sometimes covered by fake walls, or a bit of paint when "important visitors" come over, whole building seems a hazard, issues with sensors, ventilation and anything else you can think of. No access to kitchen area for water during weekend/night/holiday shifts. Even the AC is controlled to an extent where temperature gets unbearable. -manipulation all over the place -if you speak up and stir waters with very valid questions/concerns, you might as well lose your job -turnover rate is sky rocketing, due to the fact that no one is offered proper work conditions, no one is treated fairly. -unprofessionalism at its finest: these people know no boundaries at all -your safety, health, well-being, mental health are not taken into consideration at all: they will simply use you and drain you till you cannot bear it anymore. -modern day slavery, for real. inhumane volume of work, no job conditions, no proper pay, or no pay at all if you are an intern (yet thanks to them things are still moving) There is much more to say, but overall just know that no one is really happy here, everyone wants to find ways out and people are silently leaving the country -for a very good reason.

Pros

Malta as a place to live if you like sun.

Cons

Most people leaves while still on a probation - which tells a lot , so think 100 times before dealing with Aquabiotech -THE MODERN SLAVERY COMPANY - fixed term contracts to hold underpaid employees who wants to leave holding them for long years -blackmailing with big fees for braking contracts when you want to leave - bad working conditions - totally unprofessional faking company - Director lie to future employees about possibility of promotion, work conditions, money etc... - bad behaviour of director - company cheat in front of other companies, and future employees trying to hide the truth about work conditions
