Mission: We are a leading provider of IT infrastructure to the corporate and public sectors. We care passionately about two things: outstanding employee satisfaction and world-class customer service. We believe the former drives the latter.

Softcat – Why Work For Us?

Softcat is one the UK’s leading technology solutions businesses; we are a FTSE 250 listed company that has grown rapidly to reach a turnover of more than £1billion. Operating in the business-to-business sector, we specialise in IT infrastructure and provide our corporate and public sector clients with a range of advanced workplace, datacentre, networking and security solutions. To build these client-solutions, we act as a partner and reseller for some of the biggest names in technology, including Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, Lenovo and Adobe.

We’re passionate about outstanding employee satisfaction and world-class customer service. This passion has been the key to our rapid growth; clients trust us to deliver for them. We’ve also built a fantastic reputation in the sector, which is illustrated by our successful track record in winning industry and vendor awards.

Softcat is an inclusive company where you can enjoy the career you want, without changing the person you are. We’re welcoming to all and passionate about promoting greater diversity in the tech sector.

Our people are also down to earth and fun to be around. Whilst we take our business very seriously, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Life at Softcat is about working hard with a smile on our faces. The working environment here is one that people enjoy being in.

Our open-plan offices reflect our culture, with visible leadership and easy communication. Colleagues enjoy getting together to catch up and unwind in the break-out areas and games rooms. There are regular social and charity events too, which show the strength of the team spirit.

There’s always lots of charitable work and fundraising going on at Softcat. Since 2011, we’ve raised over £2million for good causes, and we’ve supported a host of charities including:

  • Dreams Come True
  • The Bubble Foundation UK
  • Tuberous Sclerosis Association
  • Comic Relief
  • Children in Need
  • Wycombe Homeless Connection
  • St Mungo’s
  • Threshold
  • Macmillan Cancer Support
  • Cancer Research UK

You’ll be encouraged to get involved – everyone gets two days’ paid leave to give something back to the community. The business is also focused on sustainability and has a proactive ‘green’ team to maximize our positive impact.

    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Softcat full-time (More than 3 years)

    - Yoga on Tuesdays
    - Free breakfast items if you're office based
    - Opportunity to learn from others
    - Can be flexible with working hours and location
    - If you're an account manager, you have a small possibility of becoming quite wealthy after 3 years of stress
    - Smaller offices are rich in culture and can be a fun place to work
    - Healthcare and dental if you've been there 2 years
    - Other benefits

    - Mass exodus of technical staff from the organisation is leaving a gaping whole
    - Pay is significantly low compared to industry standards, despite the profitability of the company
    - Cash cow for board
    - Mostly commission based
    - Calibre of culture and staff massively diminished since float
    - Calibre of the overall package reduced massively alongside other competitors - used to win Best Place to Work; now barely on the listings
    - Benefits are hard to claim; not articulated well
    - Expenses app breaks regularly; have to pay for own hotels which is felt especially when underpaid
    - Massively Profit focused -almost cult like worship!

    Advice to Management

    - Instead of getting Linda from Stoke in to conduct a £7 facial to reduce stress; why not hire more people and increase the basic so you don't have people burning out/breaking down?
    - There's a lot of rhetoric and propaganda about mental health; if it's genuinely something the organisation takes seriously, why are most of the non-remuneration rewards drinking sessions in London? Why are certain teams consistently worked or not invested in until breaking point?

    - A lot of Softcat's success orientates around a few good and brilliant people's masochistic tendency to say "yes" and dogged determination to help. These people are either in the process of leaving, have left to competitors or vendors, or are so burnout that they're essentially zombies

    - Would strongly argue that upper management haven't got a clue about the day to day workload or struggle of the boots on the ground. This needs to change if issues felt within the business are to be rectified

    Easy Interview

I applied online and they replied maybe 2 days later, asking for a.... one way video interview!! Seriously?

No thanks, I didn’t even bother myself to take it. HR needs to think that job seekers aren’t begging for a job. HRs need to know that they miss tons of talents per year that are more than happy to offer their service to competitors. Again, you’re messing up your company reputation with such practices. If you treat customers the same way who treat job seekers, you’d be out of business for a very long time.

That’s a shame while sales, customer service, finance, all these departments have evolved, HR is still stuck at the Stone Age...
