THE ROLE:
The Analog Mixed Signal team design RF-ADCs and RF-DACs which are integrated into complex silicon devices which are used in a variety of applications such as cable head-end, wireless communications, radars and medical imaging.
We are hiring for a talented and ambitious Firmware Application Engineer to join our growing team and help AMD advance next-generation computing through innovative firmware and lab automation solutions.
This role focuses on developing firmware and software solutions to enable remote control, automation, and orchestration of lab bench instrumentation. The engineer will work closely with silicon validation, hardware, and test teams to design and implement scalable lab automation systems, improving efficiency, repeatability, and remote accessibility of validation environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop integration of RF data converters firmware following product features and targeted capabilities, close application guidance, and drive technical specifications for RF SoC to meet those requirements, and provide technical direction to execution teams
Develop firmware and low-level software to remotely control lab bench equipment, including configuration, execution, and data capture.
Perform hands-on lab bring‑up, debugging, and automation, integrating firmware with physical instrumentation and test setups.
Comprehend the SOC as a complete system which includes HW (Silicon), FW, BIOS & SW and ensure that FW, BIOS & SW are aligned to enable all features, optimizing for targeted performance and power
Work cross functionally with IP/Domain architects to identify and assess complex technical issues/risks and develop architectural solutions to achieve product requirements
As an overall product owner, responsible for application guidance and technical solutions for marketing/feature change requests
Work closely with Design teams for performance characterization, Design concept validation, Test plan reviews, Emulation plans, Pre-Si bug resolution and Performance/Power Verification sign offs
Support Post-Si teams for Product Performance, Power and functional issues debug/resolution
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Strong embedded software programming skills are required in order to enable GUI and drivers for internal and external application solutions
Experience in firmware or embedded software development, with hands-on interaction with hardware or lab instrumentation.
Experience developing software to control or automate hardware systems, using protocols such as USB, UART, SPI, I²C, or Ethernet.
DSP understanding and use of associated tools such as MatLab and SimuLink.
Proficient on scripting (Python, TCL) and Linux knowledge are highly desirable
Comfortable in C, NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand (NI certified developer preferred) for test bench automation
Knowledge of automated test equipment design and architecture is welcome
Experience in the lab characterizing and debugging RF components and systems is welcome
Foundation in Systems & SoC architecture, with expertise in RFSoC Driver development is very welcome
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
Bachelor’s Degree or MSc in Electrical Engineering
