Localization Project Manager was asked...13 December 2017

What would you do if you were behind in delivering a localization project to a client? Other regular, get-to-know you questions.

I answered that the first thing I would do would be to communicate with localizers, since as PM's we live and die on their schedule. The best answer would've been to ask more questions in order to familiarize myself with their own, internal process. Less

3 questions: - localize the email below - chose an international SaaS company and compare the english homepage with the relevant language homepage via Google slides presentation - this was the worse part, the manager that checked my test commented that the company I chose is not SaaS, I presented google research that is a SaaS company so she told me that the analysys was superficial and she didn't like it after I clearly documented that the company I chose is a SaaS company. - localize 3 folds of this page in the relevant language (they provided a link)

feedback : You don' t have possibility to directly present yourself, the hiring process is based only on 3 dry questions not even explained. The company doesn't give value to the skills of a person, just a judgment on a test that can be made by anyone and be presented as yours. Less

The questions surrounded Process Improvement, vendor operations, customer service, and vendor performance management.

The reason I am submitting this review is because, I was absolutely disappointed in Google for the experience I had. The interviewer was very disrespectful and constantly yawned. He looked tired and I had to repeat the simplest statements multiple times, as he could not pay attention. He clearly did not have the intention to hire. This is the localization vendor operations team at Google Technical Services. The interviewer was in a Manager, Vendor Operations, Localization role. They absolutely wasted my time, as I took time off from my job to prepare and interview. They really should have been more considerate of the candidate. Honestly, I am shocked that individuals like this make it into Google, after they claim to have the highest bar in the hiring process Less

How would you prioritize what to localize before a product launch?

First: Translation of text. Can it be done in house? If not, select translation outfit based on price, firm longevity and reputation (Evaluating reputation is tricky) Second: Photos/images [I did it at Quinstreet for Italian] When localizing photos evaluates the need to change the photo. Example: Is showing a blonde guy valuable in the Ethiopian market, or is better to show a local resident? Obviously, changing photos is more expensive. Sometimes, removing original text, can be difficult in case of superposition. Would changing the location of the photo better? Example: Change Statue of Liberty to Eiffel Tower for French and the Kremlin for the Russian Third: Audio Media. In some cases, example, instructions on installation, this is a must. In other cases, example, entertainment, the original media might be best. Or placing media in local language could work better. Fourth: Applications. Do it if necessary. This can be expensive in some cases, or inexpensive is some other cases Fifth: Videos. This can be very expensive. Is there a budget for it? Is the expense worth it? Opinions contrary to the above are welcome, I am not perfect. Less
