Long and tedious multi-level interviews each 1 hour or more. No less than 3 interviews before approval for hire. All interviews are in the form of the STAR Method. Each interview is spread out over a week or two with no communication in between.
Zillow was a great place to work and offered a lot of great benefits. Unfortunately just after getting through all the interviews. Due to mismanagement of the company, two weeks after my start date they announced mass layoffs impacting over 2000 employees.
This created a mass scramble for internal employees to compete against each other to find new roles in the different departments of Zillow. After having just completed all the hiring steps and being onboarded, I had no choice but to also apply to other internal roles. I applied for 7 roles, 4 of those went to the first round of interviews, and 3 of those made it to the third interview. A total of 10 interviews over 3 months as the department went through the winddown process.
