Tell me of a time you had fun at work. Only tell them about a project you had fun doing.
Tell me of a time you had a difficulty with a co-worker. Tell the account with a happy ending.
Tell me of a time you had a frown on your face at work. This question is very tricky as most of us do have bad days but you need to answer it in a way that reflects honesty. As in my case while employed at a certain job a co-worker left this world while at work. Naturally most of the other workers would not have a happy face for a period of time. Remember, create your story ahead of time before going into this interview. You need to lie to them as they will lie to you. This job is not guaranteed as you need to pass training and relocate (all out of your pocket ) and pass 8 months of probation with flying colors. You will need to give $100 deposit to hold your position for training and that money goes toward your uniform expense of $720. Yes, you will be on call.
I was asked lots of questions. I would like to see you all make it. Remember, if you are called it is because you meet their requirement. However, I did ask them what would be the determining factor to hire someone to go to training. The interviewer danced around the question. So, this picked my interest to know what the answer is. It was after the interview I got it figured out. So, For United Airlines it is this: (1) Poise. when being interviewed keep your hands, not your arms folded. They are studying your body language. Feet flat on the floor. Lean slightly forward to show interest in the conversation. They take notes as you talk, but I was trying to figure out what was being written as I was being interviewed and she noticed that and told me she was just writing what I am saying. At the top corner of each page they write your answers on is a score that you are given. This score (later, tallied) determines if you get the Job or not. My first question I got a score of 3 ( I can add real quick in my head I felt she felt intimidated by me) thereafter she did not put the score seeing that I was reading the paper. (2) Strong presentation. Dress the part. Guys, get a hair cut and shave be sure you lint-roll your suit and make sure your jacket is not a different color from the pants. Be friendly but not fake, if you are not gay don't come off like that be yourself. (3) Ability to connect with People. this one is an easy one. and lastly (4) being flexible. Just tell them you will move to wherever they want you to move. I did not get the job because I was too busy reading her hands. I knew I intimidated her. I often do that because I like having the upper hand. I was so focus on figuring out what was being written as she was not looking at me. I am very observant nothing escapes my attention. I need to work on such. She finally asked a question that I knew was coming: What impression do others have of you when they meet you? So, I said they think I don't have a bad day because I seem so happy. She knew this was a lie caused I intimidated her. So, she asked the question again. I caught on to what she was trying to get to so I said, "people think because I am so nice they can take advantage of me but, I often see where they are coming from and I would quickly get out of the way. She knew I was lying. and I was lying. She said, "we're done. Do you have any questions for me? This is when I asked "what does success as a flight attendant look like in six months to a year from now?" knowing fully well the airline industry will have a hick-up and will need to lay off some people, which is a normal cycle in that industry. If you know you did all you can and did not get the job it is okay. It is not the end of the world. For me I was just looking for a job. I won't try another airline nor United again because they are other people who really want this more than I do. It is only fair to let them go for it. In the end, I got a pretty good insight into the airline industry as to how they select their folks to work for them. It was a positive experience but I would not try it again.
